SCBA Application
It is designed to permit the wearer to
work safely in an atmosphere that would
not normally support life such as:
In toxic gases
In Oxygen deficiency areas
In the presence of Irritants such as by
products of fire
And in smoke

SCBA Precautions to be taken
CABA, by its nature , is filled with air at
high pressure which could prove
dangerous if not handled
properly.Therefore
Timely maintenance is required
Training to users is essential

Calculation of Working Duration
Cylinder capacity
= a Litres
Cylinder pressure
= b Bar
Average consumption = 40 Lit/min
Duration (t)min = a Lit x b Bar / 40 Lit/mn
W.D = Total Duration Safety Factor
Joseph Leslie
Drager
Cylinder capacity
= 6 Litres
Cylinder pressure
= 200 Bar
Average consumption = 40 Lit/min
Duration (t)min = 6 Lit x 200 Bar / 40 Lit/mn
Duration (t)min = 1200 / 40 Lit/mn
Total Duration (t)min = 30 Lit/mn
W.D = Total Duration Safety Factor
W.D = 30 10 = 20 minutes

Preparation for Use
Inspect SCBA: quick visual inspection for any obvious damage that
would preclude safe and proper use of the SCBA
Inspect Face piece: Rubber deterioration, cracks, tears, holes, tackiness
Inspect Head Harness: Breaks; missing straps; loss of elasticity; buckles
deformed, corroded, damaged or missing; strap
serrations worn
Inspect Lens: cracks, scratches, loss of tightness to face piece, regulator
inlet coupling deformed or damaged
Inspect Backpack: cuts, tears, abrasions, signs of chemical or heat
damage, inoperative buckles
Inspect Cylinder: at least 80 % full; check cylinder for dents, hydro
testing date etc
Inspect Hoses: cuts, cracks, abrasions, bulges, wrinkles, loose or
inoperative connections
Joseph Leslie
Drager
Preparation for Use
Visually inspect for any obvious damage that would
preclude safe and proper use of the SCBA
Fully open all the harnesses
Check the threads of the cylinder & the pressure
reducer and the sealing O ring.
With the apparatus in horizontal position slide the
cylinder in the support strap from top to the pressure
reducer.
Lift the unit in upright position and screw the hand
wheel on pressure reducer into the cylinder port.
Hook anti vibration strap if provided.
Keep the unit in horizontal position

Preparation for use
Adjust the cylinder support strap to activate
the cam lock mechanism and tighten it.
Firmly press the loose end of strap on to the
Velcro.
Connect the demand valve to the mask by
pressing the demand valve in to the port in the
mask.
Check the pressure by opening the cylinder
valve.(Close the D/V manually)
Joseph Leslie
Putting on Apparatus
Drager
Put on apparatus with harnesses fully extended by
either of the two methods - coat method or over-the
head method
Most of the weight (85%) should be carried on the
waist/hips
Pull down the shoulder straps until the apparatus feels
comfortable
Fasten the waist belt until apparatus sits securely .
Wear the shoulder strap of the mask and connect the
demand valve.
Make sure that the demand valve is switched off
manually.

Putting on apparatus
Open cylinder valve slowly but fully.
Check the pressure gauge. The gauge should
read minimum 80 % of its full capacity.
Wear the mask and tighten the harnesses by
holding the breath. (Spread out the straps, place
chin the face piece, place the straps over
head, tighten the lower straps first and then
others)
Now the first breath will activate the demand
valve and then breath normally.
Breathing Protection Technology
Joseph Leslie
Drager
After Use
Switch off the demand valve and remove the
face piece.
Unfasten the waist belt.
Loosen the shoulder straps by lifting both the
buckles.
Remove the apparatus slowly from back.
Close the cylinder valve.
Vent the air in the hoses.
Change the cylinder with a refilled cylinder

PLEASE NOTE
BA should only be worn by a trained person
BA team consists two people.
BA wearer is not allowed to enter a hazardous
area alone.
BA must be donned and started up in fresh air
only.
BA is not to be worn for entry into a hazardous
area if less than 80 % of full capacity air is
there in the cylinder.
Breathing Protection Technology
Joseph Leslie
Drager
PLEASE NOTE
BA wearer is responsible for the pre entry
checks correctly prior handling the BA
BA wearer is responsible for checking the
pressure gauge frequently.
BA wearer should be trained to leave the area
just before the warning whistle sounds.
On hearing the DSU, teams should stop what
they are doing and render assistance to the
injured person
Joseph Leslie
Drager
Cleaning the BA
Dirty components has to be cleaned and dried
after use.
Masks and demand valve must always to be
cleaned and disinfected.
Drager recommends Wipex cloth,safety
wash,water and liquid soap
Be careful about the concentration and the
reaction time of the disinfectant used.
While drying the temperature of 60 deg Celsius
must not be exceeded.

Refilling and AMC
s
Make sure that the refilling is done with a good
compressor for the same purpose.
Insist on Air Quality Test Certificate from the
Cylinder Refilling Agency.
Conduct random checks to ensure correct air quality.
AMCs should be awarded to reputed and
experienced parties only possessing all relevant
facilities such as Inhalation & Exhalation Resistance
Testing Equipment, Leakage Testing Machinery etc..
Use original spare parts. Adjustments will be
dangerous

Intended Use
The Talisman K80
Spirit thermal imaging
camera is used to
detect heat sources &
to locate persons in
darkness or smoke
Talisman

Spirit
Technical Description
The principle of thermal imaging is based on the fact
that an object radiates electromagnetic energy at
wavelengths & intensities that depend, in part, on the
temperature of the object. In any given scene there are
likely to be differences in the amount of energy being
radiated. A thermal imaging camera has the ability to
detect the radiated difference in the amount of energy
being radiated. A thermal imaging camera has the ability
to detect the radiated difference & form an image of the
scene
Breathing Protection Technology

Spirit
Description
The camera is equipped with a lens for the thermal image,
with an additional lens available as an option for the visual
picture. The integrated viewfinder displays the thermal
image, while the visual picture can be overlaid using a
button on top of the camera. A video output socket allows
remote transmission.
The surface temperature of the object being viewed can be
measured using the optional remote thermometer &
displayed as a digital value on the viewfinder
