Advantages of Using Bokashi

Does not produce bad odors

Convenient

Uses table and kitchen scraps rather than putting in trash

(landfills)

Improves quality and healthiness of plants

Researches
Reported application rates of bokashi fertilizer for rice fields on Guimaras and Negros.
The application rate is measured as the number of feedsacks of bokashi that were
applied to a given surface.

Traditional Compost vs Bokashi

Compost
Traditional Composting

Bokashi

Heat Oxidation

Aerobic

8-12 weeks to break

down food

Processes only plantbased food waste

Outside only

Fermentation

Anaerobic

4-6 weeks to break down

food

Processes plant/animalbased food waste

Inside and outside

Other Uses of Bokashi

Watering plants (Bokashi tea)

Septic Sanitizing

Probiotic

Reduce odors

Conclusion
Bokashi compost is practical, easy to use and composts
all waste hygienically without the unpleasant odors and
insects. Using Bokashi compost, nutrients are added to the
soil that can make the plants healthier. It may also reduce
costs because it lessens the need to buy and use inorganic
fertilizers. It does not produce greenhouse gasses, making
the compost safe for the environment.
