Roman Mythology

A collection of stories that build up and are used to


describe the origin of the Roman culture and civilization

Religious aspects were based off of the Greeks

They gave each god certain characteristics

Used myths to explain cultural virtues and teach a lesson

In these stories, there was a main character that served a


purpose for their homeland.

After Christianity was made the official religion, the myths


lost their importance

Made an impact on culture and religion

Greek Mythology

The body of myths and teachings that belong to the ancient Greeks
concerning their gods and heroes

Culture is derived from Homers epic poems, the Lliad and the Odyssey

Based their lives off of the gods and believed that they controlled all of
the aspects of nature

Worshiped gods through festivals and ceremonies

Their lives revolved around their religious beliefs and made a living out
of what they thought was important

Was chosen along with Neptune to watch over a


town

Only one god was allowed to look over a town


at a time

The people did want to choose because they


did not want to anger the gods

Minerva got an idea to have her and Neptune


give them a gift and they could choose that
way

Minerva Cont.

Neptune gave them a flowing stream of


water, however it was salt water

Minerva gave them an olive tree for shade


and resources

Neptune saw that Minervas gift was better


and gave the city to her

Known for her olive tree and helping her


people

She was an expert at domestic arts and


invented the bridle

Known as a protector

Jupiters favorite child

Early Christian Views on Paganism

Christianity contradicts the Roman and Greek beliefs

Believed in one God instead of multiple

Showed contempt for Greek and Roman mythology

Started worshiping saints like gods

Influence of mythology

Realized what they were doing was hypocritical

Conclusion

Both Roman and Greek mythology had a huge impact on the world

Peoples lives revolved around the culture

Minerva was an inspiration to many

Christians eventually got themselves straightened out

Culture and traditions still play a huge part in peoples lives today
