ELECTROMAGNETIC FLOW MEASUREMENT

FLOWMETER
INTRODUCTION
Magnetic flowmeters are low pressure drop, volumetric, liquid flow
measuring devices. The low maintenance designwith no moving
parts, high accuracy, linear analog outputs, insensitivity to specific
gravity, viscosity, pressure and temperature, and the ability to
measure a wide range of difficult-tometer fluids (such as corrosives,
slurries and sludges
WORKING PRINCIPLE
Faradays Law :
The operation of a magnetic flowmeter is based upon Faradays Law, which
states that The voltage induced across any conductor as it moves at right
angles through a magnetic field is proportional to the velocity of that
conductor.
Faradays Formula: E is proportional to V x B x D
where: E= K x V x B x D
E = The voltage generated in a conductor
V = The velocity of the conductor B = The magnetic field strength
D = The length of the conductor
K = Instrument constant

CHARACTERSTICS
1.1 Its energy saving effect is remarkable, especial suit to measure liquid-solid
two phase flow such as sewage, slurry, ore pulp, water-coal pulp, paper pulp
and so on.
1.2 Of contact with measured medium only have liner and electrode, as long
as reasonably select liner and electrode material it can attain good non-
corrodibility and wear ability, so that can measure various acid and alkali
chemical solution.
1.3 Installation demand is low.
1.4 Measurement accuracy non-subject to the influence for variation of the
fluid density, viscosity, temperature, pressure and conductivity, also can
measure positive / negative two directional flow rate, which has provided the
very good means for precise measurement of flow rate.
1.5 Instrument watt consumption is small, lower than 5VA.
NOTE:
Since its only the lining material and electrode to have contact with
the fluid .
It has some norms for selection of material.
HB,HC,TI,TA ELECTRODE MATERIAL because they are resistive to
corrosion.

PTFE,F4,F46,PFA LINING MATERIAL because they have stability of

plastics such as chemical, electrical,smoke,flame,etc.
RELATION BETWEEN
CURRENT AND FLOW
As the fluid flows through the pipe, there is a emf induced across
the ends of terminals which is converted to current and has the
following relation with Flow rate.
I = 4KQ/(pi * DF)
Therefore Current is directionally proportional to flow rate.
=> Linear Instrument.
