A discussion and debate game.

Practice making a clear argument

to prove your innocence.
Day/Night
Day = Everyone opens eyes
During the day everyone votes on who to kil
l.
Each day the person who gets the most vote
s is killed.
Night = Everyone closes eyes
During the night killers kill,
doctors save, and then
jailors search for killers.
Goal:
If the 2 Jailors die the Killers win.
[Killers and Killer Allies, dead or alive]

If the 2 Killers die the citizens win.

[Citizens, Doctors, Jailors, and
Citizen Allies, but only if alive!]
Basic Roles:
Numbers = Citizen
2 Red K = killers
[wake up together]
1 Black K = killer
[wake up alone]
2 Black Q = doctors
[wake up together]
2 Black J = Jailors (police)
[wake up together]
Extra Roles:
2 Black A = Citizen Allies (win if Citizens win)
[wake up together only once]
2 Red A = Killer Allies (win if Killers win)
[wake up together only once]
Red J = CRAZY J. (pretend to be killer)
[never wake up at night]
Red Q = Stay Alive! (everyone else loses)
[never wake up at night]
Materials:
All you need is a deck of cards.
After you know how to play, you do
nt even need to use the ppt. Just wr
ite the information you need from sl
ides 4~5 on the board.
Dear Teacher:
If the class has never played the game before, its best to play a simple game first
using only the BASIC ROLES. After they have played once add some EXTRA ROL
ES to make the game more interesting.

I give candy to the winners. The citizen team members must be living at the end
to get candy. Since there are less bad guys they get candy even if they died durin
g the game.

Once a player dies they can keep their eyes open at night but are no longer allo
wed to give hints or talk during the day.

CRAZY J gets candy if he/she is killed during the day but not if he/she is killed by
a killer. If Red Q stays alive until the end of the game he/she wins and everyone
else in the class loses.

When someone dies I tell the class if it was a Killer, a Jailor. Otherwise just say it
wasnt a Killer and it wasnt a Jailor. Of course they will know if CRAZY J dies, be
cause I give him/her candy right away and the game continues. They dont know
until the end of the game who the others are (doctors, allies, Red Q)
How to Play:
Get a regular deck of playing cards. Select the special cards to
use and then add enough number cards to bring the total nu
mber of cards up to the number of students playing the game.
Mix the cards up and pass them out randomly to the students,
instructing them to look at the card carefully without letting a
nyone else see it.
After looking at the card, I like to have them slide the card, fac
e down, under a book. This prevents them from bending or ri
pping the cards during the game and makes it less likely for an
yone to look at another players cards.
Once all the cards are passed out and the student know what
their roles are, the teacher narrates the game (see the next sli
des for a word for word example of how to narrate the gam
e).
Killers Kill:
Everyone go to sleep. [all students close their eyes]
Red Killers wake up. [2 students with the red K cards
open eyes and look at the teacher.
Who do you want to kill? [each killer points to a stud
ent who has their eyes closed]
Killers go back to sleep. [they close their eyes again]
Black Killer wake up. [the student with the black K ca
rd opens his/her eyes and looks at the teacher]
Who do you want to kill? [the student points to a sle
eping student]
Killer go back to sleep. [the student closes his eyes ag
ain]
Doctors Save:
[all eyes are still closed]
Doctors wake up. [2 students with the black
Q cards open eyes and look at the teacher.
Who do you want to save? [each doctor poi
nts to a student who has their eyes closed]
Doctors go back to sleep. [they close their e
yes again]
**If they point to someone who was chosen
by a killer then the person will not die.**
Jailors Search:
[all eyes are still closed]
Jailors wake up. [2 students with the black J
cards open eyes and look at the teacher.
Who do you think is a killer? [each killer poi
nts to a student who has their eyes closed]
**If the person they point to is a killer
nod, yes, and if not shake your head, no.**
Jailors go back to sleep. [they close their eye
s again]
Special Characters:
**Only do the during the first night.**
Citizen Allies wake up. [2 students with black A c
ards open eyes]
Look at your ally. [2 students look at each other]
Now go back to sleep. [they close their eyes]
Killer Allies wake up. [2 students with red A cards
open eyes]
Look at your ally. [2 students look at each other]
Now go back to sleep. [they close their eyes]
Note:
Red Q and CRAZY J. (red J) never wake up during the game. You d
ont need to know who they are until they die or the game is over.
Its good to have a seating chart on which to keep notes about wh
o are killers and who gets killed each night.
For a smaller class you can omit the black killer and one of the doct
ors. For a very small class you could use only one killer, one doctor
and one jailor. For a small class you can still use the citizen allies (bl
ack A), CRAXY J. (red J) and Red Q, but it the killer allies dont wor
k well with smaller classes.
If the killers win the game I give all the bad guys candy even if t
hey have dies.
If the good guys win I walk around and trade candy for cards. The
only ones who wont get it are the red A and red J.
Of course if the red Q did not die during the game that is the only
student who gets candy. ^^
