performed on the
Prior to smart field the media knew the

Gender Media and Gender 5

Male sports are more concentrated on their play and

entertainment factor (e.g. dunking, diving for a catch,
scoring a goal)
On the other hand, media focuses more on females
appearances rather than their athletic talents.

Glamorized and sexualized media images of athletes

can result in distorted body image

Comparisons and expectations of these images can

result in low self esteem and self-objectification
Self-esteem and objectification can lead to eating
disorders and mental problems.

Have you ever desired to look like a certain

athlete? What is reasoning?

women accultured to value their physical perception in the
eyes of others

Sportscaste The role of sportscasters 2
r

Traditionally, the primary job of a commentator was to

deliver a simple description of the situation, which is
called an objective or factual commentary (Morris &
Nydahl, 1983)
Currently, one of their primary job is to enhance the
enjoyment aspects of televised sports through color
commentary, often
including the dramatic embellishment of plays
Color commentary and consumers satisfaction are strongly
associated with each other, and also it is positively
associated with perceived
quality and re-viewing intentions (M. K. Lee & Yeo, 2011)
