We need the following data to design traverser

1. Type of Traverser
. Pit Traverser Rolling stock is directly transferred from
SR (Shop Rails) to TTR (Rails mounted on Top of
Traverser). There can be level difference of 10 mm to 60
mm between SR / TTR. To bridge over this Level
difference Fixed Ramps are used.
. Surface Traverser SR / TR (Traverser movement Rails)
are at same level . TTR is at higher level 170 mm to
300 mm at the Entrance of Traverser. Rolling stock gets
transferred from SR (Shop Rails) to TTR by using Bridge
Over Piece (Also known as movable Ramp / Tongue
Assembly).
. Surface Traverser with Slightly submerged construction:
Entrance Height of 170 mm / 300 mm may not be
acceptable, to handle the rolling stock with limited
Bottom clearance. Effective Entrance height is
controlled by using slightly submerged construction.
SR /TTR Level difference decided as 120 mm to 150 mm

A Portal
2 Track / 3 Track Portal will be required if Haulage
is required as Cabin weight may exceed 2T
Multi Track Portal will be required if Wheels are not
provided for Cabin with Haulage machinery

B Overhang Beyond extreme Track

Overhang may be 1/6th to 1/4th of Span for two
track traverser
Overhang may be 1/10th to 1/8th of Span
between last two track

C Span between tracks

To be engineered for minimised load on wheels
during Entry / during L.T. Travel & will be required to be
calculated based on Rolling stock Load / Dimension

THE CABIN SIDE GIRDER, IF PORTAL IS REQUIRED, SELECT
LOCATION TO GIVE MINIMUM INTERFERENCE TO OPERATORS
VIEW / TO FACILIATE PLACEMENT OF CAPSTANS ON GIRDERS.
FREE MOVEMENT SPACE: CONSIDER CLEARANCE FOR
MOVEMENT OF OPERATING PERSONNEL WITH ROLLING STOCK

We have received Dimensions for 8 Wheel rolling

stock - but we need bottom clearances / exact width &
details of height at Bottom to design traverser
structure taking full advantage of available heights.
Client be requested to give Autocad Drawing for
rolling stock smallest / largest with wheel loads or
requested to give sketches duly filled in with
dimensions marked.
Presumption made by designer for 12 wheel rolling
stock to be validated.
If Traverser is provided with BOP (Tongue Assembly)
obtain concurrence from client that rolling stock will be
hadled by traverser after removing Cattle Guard.
