LEAVES AS AN ALTERNATIVE TEA FOR OBESE AND


DIABETIC PEOPLE

Doctors are resorting to these simplified approaches because Philippines is a
diabetic hotspot. Some studies place prevalence at 7.2% of the population, it
also notes that 500 Filipinos add to the demographic daily. While there are an
estimated 4 million diagnosed patients.
Bignay Tree (Antidesma bunius) originated in the lower Himalayas in India,
Ceylon, and southeast Asia and northern Australia, but abundant and invasive
species in the Philippines. This fruit is in season, so there is an abundance in the
market and it is very very cheap.
This study aims to produce an everyday easy-to-drink product that will help
control the consumption of high concentrated sugar (glucose) and carbohydrates.
As this becomes a serious threat to human health, this product extracted from
naturally grown trees native in the Philippines will induce impact on how to
prevent obesity which may lead to Diabetes. This research will test if bignay fruit
and leaves can be used as weight control and treatment for diabetes. The
expectation is that the respondent will be negative in diabetes, normal blood
sugar level and normal BMI.
STATEM EN T O F TH E PRO BLEM
This study generally aimed to solve the effects of
bignay fruits and leaves as an alternative tea for treating
diabetes and for conduting weight control.

This is also guided with the following specific questions:


1. Is there a significant effect of bignay leaves as an
alternative tea in terms of:
a. weight of respondents
b. blood glucose level of the respondents
2. What are the properties of bignay fruit that can be
used for treating diabetes?
STATEM EN T O F TH E H YPO TH ESIS
The following are the hypothesis of the effect of bignay
(Antidesma bunius) fruit and leaves as an alternative tea for
obesity and diabetic people.
Null hypothesis:
1. There will be no effect of bignay in the respondents weight and
blood sugar level.
2. The bignay product will be expensive.
3. There will be no difference in the respondents weight and blood
sugar level.

Alternative hypothesis:
1. There will be an effect in the respondents weight and blood
sugar level.
2. The bignay product will be very cheap.
3. There will be difference in the respondents weight and blood
sugar level.
