AFFIRMATIVE & NEGATIVE

STATEMENT
( TOO & SO / EITHER & NEITHER)

Avoid needles repetition of


words from the affirmative (+)
and negative (-) statement.
Become a short and effective
statement.
FORMULA Affirmative Statement:
Affirmative Statement SO:
Affirmative statement (be) + and + so + ( Auxiliary / Tobe ) + Subject

Affirmative Statement TOO:


Affirmative statement + and + subject + Auxiliary / tobe + too

Example:
1. I am happy and you are happy
* I am happy and you are too
* I am happy and so are you
2. We study English every week. She studies English every week.
* We study English every week and she does too.
* We study English every week and so does she.
FORMULA NEGATIVE STATEMENT
Negative Statement NEITHER:
Negative statement (be) + and + Neither + (Positive Auxiliary / Tobe ) + Subject

Negative Statement EITHER:


Negative statement + and + subject + Negative Auxiliary / tobe + Either

Example:
1. I am not happy and you are not happy
* I am not happy and you are not either
* I am not happy and neither are you

2. We dont study English every week. She doesnt study English every week.
* We dont study English every week and she doesnt either
* We study English every week and neither does she.
EXERCISE :
Using Affirmative Statement TOO or SO:
