By Veronica Johnson Summary of Attack: On Friday the 13th in 2015, bombers and gunmen attacked a concert hall, a large stadium, restaurants, and bars all almost at the same time. In the end of the terrorist attack, 130 people were dead and hundreds more were wounded.
The attacks went in this order:
21:20 Explosion at the Stade de France
21:25 Shootings on Rue Alibert 21:32 Diners shot in Rue de la Fontaine au Roi 21:36 Gun attack in Rue de Charonne 21:40 Suicide bomb at Boulevard Voltaire Who Committed the Attack? President Francois Hollande described that the terrorist attack was led by the Islamic State (IS) militant group.
The leader was identified to be Oussama Atar. At
age 32, he conducted the terrorist attack from Syria.
One leader is suspected to be
Abdelhamid Abaaoud. He was killed a couple days later due to a police raid in Paris.
Also, after running away, Salah Abdeslam was
arrested as a suspect. His fingerprints were located on the explosives, and is suspected to be the driver for those that bombed the buildings. Motivation for the Attack: There are multiple hypotheses to why ISIS attacked Paris. After they confessed to doing the attack, the question was why? Here are the possible reasons:
ISIS is all about a war of civilization where France
respects civilization. Therefore, Paris was a target.
ISIS was mad at those who immigrated to France for
a better life and how they left their culture behind.
They explained that Paris is "the capital of
prostitution and vice" and other nations follow their path. Therefore, they were a definite target.
One gunman shouted, "This is because of all the
harm done by Hollande to Muslims all over the Results of the Attack: 130 people dead
Hundreds wounded
Around 80 were in critical condition
France resulted in fear on if they
had strong enough protection.
Afterward, they planned to
tighten border control for better safety.
France made immigration
Response to the Attack: In response to the attack, France fought back by sending fighter jets to bomb ISIS sites in Raqqa, Syria on November 15-16, 2015.
On November 23, 2015, the first airstrikes aircraft carrier is
launched to attack ISIS. France totaled 38 bombing raids toward ISIS.
While all this took place, President Hollande got lawmakers
to approve to have a 3 month long emergency state for the nation.
On November 8, 2016, the identified leader of the terrorist
attack is announced to be Oussama Atar.
Overall, this terrorist attack made France come to the
conclusion that they need a stronger border control and have a better involved police force to provide safety for the citizens of their country. Works Cited:
