INTRODUCTION

The lowest part of a structure is

generally referred to as the foundation.
Its function is to transfer the load of the
structure to the soil on which it is
resting. A properly designed foundation
is one that transfers the load
throughout the soil without
overstressing the soil.
INTRODUCTION
Overstressing the soil can result in
either excessive settlement or shear
failure of the soil, both of which cause
damage to the structure. Thus,
geotechnical and structural engineers
who design foundations must
evaluate the bearing capacity of soil.
INTRODUCTION

Spread footings and combined

footings are generally referred to
as shallow foundations.
Pile foundations are deep
foundations. They are formed by
long, slender, columnar elements
typically made of steel or
reinforced concrete, or sometimes
timber.
INTRODUCTION
This study aims to assure that the
required specifications of the
foundations, located at the proposed
four storey 24 classroom Padre Garcia
National High School, are suitable for
the soil conditions presented on the
laboratory results. The group intends to
determine the factor of safety against
bearing capacity of the foundations
that were constructed at the proposed
four storey 24 classroom Padre Garcia
National High School, and to identify
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The soil within this area can be
idealized as two layers in which the
upper layer consisted of Clay Dark
Brown to Gray in color, moist, loose
to medium dense, slightly plastic.
The second layer sandy clay light
gray to dark gray in color, moist
medium dense.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Based on evaluation of the information
available from the field and laboratory
testing, isolated or combined or mat-
type foundations for the proposed
structure is recommended as the main
foundation design choice. For
earthquake-resistant foundation
design, we recommended foundation
layout with different elements of the
substructure tied together at 2.00
meter with soil bearing capacity 180
KPa from the natural grade line.

Load of Representative Section

Allowable Gross Load

EVALUATION
Based from the computations, with the
load of the representative section,
1092.593 KN, which in comparison to
the allowable gross load, 1701.232
KN, is smaller. This can be assumed
that the footing constructed is safe and
that it is unlikely for the soil to fail due
to bearing capacity failure.
IMPLICATIONS
If the processes and methods that were
used to analyse the geotechnical
condition of the soil was successful, it can
also be used for other future projects that
have the same type or soil condition.
On the other hand, if there is an unreliable
result in the experiments, the researchers
must check what possible factors that
could affect the accuracy of the results.
Geotechnical Engineering practice can be
further improve by giving importance to
the things that is commonly ignored or
neglected to avoid miscalculations and

CONCLUSION
Based on the great difference of values
of the allowable gross load to the
structures load, it is clear that the
foundation was over designed. This is
likely due to the fact that the design of
the structure, 24 CL Padre Garcia NHS,
is based on a standard design issued
by the DPWH, which means that the
designer put into consideration various
types of soil cases. It is most likely that
the worst case scenario was the
inspiration to design this building so
