INTRODUCTION
 ABSTRACT
Title: Role of Co-curricular Activities in Social Development of
Students: A Study of Selected Public Secondary Schools in Suneka,
Kenya.
Purpose: To examine the role of co-curricular activities in social
development among students in secondary schools in Kenya.
Research Design: Cross-sectional survey.
Sample: 92 students from public secondary schools in Suneka division.
Sampling: Random sampling procedure.
Instrument of the Study: Questionnaire
Data Collection: Quantitative
Data Analysis: SPSS

KENYA
Co-curricular activities contributed
towards social development in: installing
discipline, building tolerance, enhancing
co-operation, creating a sense of
responsibility, improving in judgement,
accepting defeat and improving moral
values.
MALAYSIA
Co-curriculum activities have shown a
significant positive correlation with the
four competencies tested which includes
communication, cognitive, managing self
and academic competency as has been
proven by many other researchers
(MALAY2,2005).
Those who participate in similar activities
benefit in number of ways such as
positive developmental outcomes, higher
educational attainment and
achievement, reduced problem behavior
and positive psycho-social
adjustment(MALAY4,2010).

a sense of responsibility, improving
students judgement, accepting defeat
and improving moral values among
students.
MALAYSIA
Activities provide opportunities for
students to learn the values of
teamwork, a channel for reinforcing skills
and the opportunity to apply academic
skills in other arenas as a part of a well-
rounded education (2005)
The value of travel-related experiences
as a precursor to corporate and political
leadership has been emphasized (2010).
The implementation of good values in
every activity conducted in school can
create a generation that is capable to
make a reasonable decision as well as
responsible towards their actions and
