History
FGM has been a significant practice in various cultures. A total of 99.6 million
females aged 10 and older just in Sub - Saharan Africa alone have undergone the
procedure.

Originally thought to be the product of Islam, but cannot be confirmed because its
used as a coming of age ritual and as preparation for marriage/family rearing, and
is culturally/socially practiced rather than religiously.

Most of the women leaders who practice FGM believe that it is beneficial for
female health and spirit.
Present Issue
FGM is still extremely prevalent in 30 different countries across the world,
including the UK, Indonesia, Yemen, and multiple countries in Sub-Saharan
Africa.

Solution(s)
EDUCATION IS KEY:
Human Rights Violation

Encourage communities to

recognize the health problems that can occur

Educate women to let them know their own rights and

to make sure that the girls in their own communities who

are the most vulnerable will be held safe from having to

do this.
Our Plan!
1. Establish Educational seminars in communities where it is most prevalent, and have
local communities conduct it.

2. Provide psychological and physical recuperation facilities that allow survivors to

come and navigate through past procedures, current pressures to have their own go
through the procedure, and future intentions of the like in the affected communities
with local practitioners.

.Reconstructive surgery for those who want it.

. Safe space to discuss the trauma and support for others who
are going through the same thing.
