Elements of art are the tools
you use to create a piece of art.
Line: path of a moving point,
continuous mark
2 types of line straight & curved
Shape: an object that has
height and width (flat)
Form: 3-D object that has height,
width & depth. (fatted out)
Color: stimulation of the eye by
light
Value: the lightness or
darkness of an object
Texture: is the feel of an object-may
not always look the way it feels.
Space: the illusion of depth on a flat
surface
2 types of space: Negative & Positive
POSITIVE:
shape of space
found in
foreground,

recognizable
NEGATIVE:
shape of space
found in
background,
unrecognizable

Balance: equal distribution of
weight in an artwork
4 types of balance
Assymmetrical: appears the Symmetrical: same weight on

Radial: Radiated or comes


from the center
Movement: the path your eye
follows through a work of art
Rhythm: creating movement with
repetition
Emphasis: makes an area in the
artwork stand out
Contrast: a big difference between
two areas of the art work
Variety: a change or diversity, lack
of sameness in a work of art
Unity: how all parts of a work of art
fit together to look and feel complete

Composition: how the artwork is

Proportion: size relationship of
objects within an art piece.
