(Luke 11:5-8)
Luke 11-13
One day Jesus was praying in a
certain place.
When he had finished, his disciples
asked him to teach them how to pray
just like how John had taught his
disciples.
Jesus then taught them to pray like
this :
What led to Father,
Parable
May your holy name be honoured;
may your Kingdom come.
Give us day by day the food we need.
Forgive us our sins, for we forgive
everyone who does us wrong.
And do not bring us to hard testing.

Suppose:
You go to friends house @ midnight
to borrow 3 loaves of bread.
Your friend tells you not to bother
him his door is already locked, he &
his children already in bed.
What then?
Jesus told them that even if his friend
would not get up and give him the
bread just for friendship sake, he
The parable
would give him everything he needed
because he was not ashamed to keep
asking.
Although the man would not help
based on his friendship, he did in the
end because of his boldness and
shameless persistence.
Meaning So too should be the way we pray .
We should show persistence and
boldness.

(Luke 12:16-21)
A man in the crowd asked JC to
tell his bro to divide with him the
property their father had left both
of them.
Jesus replied that he had no
authority to judge or to divide the
property betwn the 2 of them.
Jesus went on to warn them
against every kind of greed.
Jesus said that a persons true life
is not made up of things he owns,
no matter how rich he may be.

Thousands of other people
Rich man has land of good crops
& need a place to store them.
(How?)
He plans to tear down his barns
and build BIGGER ones so that he
can store his grains AND goods.
He is pleased, feels LUCKY MAN
to have all the good things for the
future.
He can now take life easy, eat,
drink & be merry.
NOT IN GODS EYES!!
God calls him A FOOL!
THAT VERY NIGHT, he is to die.
WHO will get all the things he has
kept for himself??
A persons true life is not made
up of the things he owns, no
mater how rich he may be
BECAUSE
He who piles up riches for
himself is not considered rich in
Gods sight.
(Luke 12:35-38)
Then Jesus said to his disciples,
And so I tell you NOT TO WORRY
about the food you need to stay
alive or about the clothes you
need for your body for God
will provide
INSTEAD to be concerned with
the Kingdom that God wants to
give to them ..
And to therefore seek and save
for their riches in heaven where
no thief could get to them and
where no moth could destroy
them.

Be ready for whatever comes,
dressed for action & with your
lamps lit.
Like servants waiting for their
masters to come back after
wedding feast.
When he comes and knocks, they
will open the door for him AT
ONCE.
How happy are those servants
whose master finds them AWAKE
& READY when he returns
EVEN IF he should come at
midnight or even later!
We are to BE READY and waiting
for Jesus, the Son of Mans return
because He will come at an hour
when we are not expecting Him.
(Luke 12:42-48)
Peter asked Jesus if the Parable of The
Watchful Servants applied to them (his
disciples) or to everybody in general.
Jesus then proceeded to identify who
the faithful and wise servant was.

The faithful servant is the one who the
master will put in charge -
to run the household
to give the other servants their share of
food at proper times
AND WHO WILL BE SEEN DOING ALL
THESE when his master returns.
The master will be so pleased that he
will put this servant in charge of ALL his
property.
BUT
IF servant thinks master is taking too
long to return, then beats other
servants, male & female, eats, drinks,
gets drunk, then when tmaster returns
unannounced, he will be cut in pcs &
punished , according to his given
responsibilities.
Be good stewards in your Masters (JC)
absence.
Much is required fr the person to
whom much is given; much MORE is
required fr the person to whom much
MORE is given.
(Luke 13:6-9)
Some people had told Jesus about
the Galileans whom Pilate had
killed while they were offerring
sacrifices to God.
Jesus asked them if they had
considered those who died as
having been worse sinners than
all other Galileans.
He asked the same of the 18
people who perished when
tower fell on them at Siloam; if
they were deemed worse than all
other Jews.
Jesus told them not to think that
because ANYone who does not
turn from their sins would meet
the same fate!

There was once a man with a fig
tree growing in his vineyard. For 3
years, he waited for figs, but NO
figs.
Gave gardener instructtions to
CUT IT DOWN! Why should it go
on using up the soil?
Gardener pleads for 1 more year
grace. He will till the soil and add
fertilsers.
If tree bears figs, then OK!
IF NOT, CUT IT DOWN!!
The importance of repentance
from sin.
Christian living should bear fruits .
God gives us ample time to bear
repent and bear fruit before
judging unrepentance.

(Luke 14:8-11)
One Sabbath, Jesus went to eat a
meal at the home of a leading
Pharisee.
Jesus noticed how some guests
were choosing the best places.

When someone invites you to a
wedding feast
DO NOT sit in the best place. You
wld be embarassed if your host has
to request you to move in favour of
a more imp guest and sit a the
lowest place!
INSTEAD
Sit in the lowest place so that your
host will invite you to a better seat
of honour.
Everyone who makes himself great
will be humbled and everyone who
humbles himself will be made
great.
The Great Feast
(Luke 14:16-24)
When one of the men (at the home
of a leading Pharisee) who had
heard Jesus relate the parable of
the Wedding Feast said to Jesus,
How happy are those who sit
down at the feast in the Kingdom of
God!

feast , many ppl invited.
When time of feast came, his
servant was sent to tell his guests,
Come, everything is ready!
BUT excuses with apologies
-Bought a field, must look at it
-Bought 5 pairs oxen, on way to try
them out
-Just got married, cant come
Servant reported rsvps.
Master FURIOUS!
Tells servant to bring back from the
streets & alleys the poor, crippled,
blind & lame.
Still room for more guests, so
servants go out further to MAKE
PEOPLE COME IN so that house can
be full.
NONE of the original invitees wld
get re-invited.
Warning to the Jews that their
refusal to accept Gods invitation
would result in their rejection and
the inclusion of the Gentiles
instead.
The Man Building A Tower(Luke
14:28-30)
Once when large crowds od people
were going along with Jesus, he
turned and said to them that no
one can be his disciple UNLESS he
1.Loves Him > parents, wife, childn,
siblings & SELF
2.Carries his own cross & go after
Him

Anyone planning to build a tower
must first
1.Sit down & fig out the cost
2.See if he has enough $$ to finish
the job.
3. Not enough $$ - cannot finish
more than just laying the
foundation.
4. People will laugh at him and say
that he couldnt finsh the job!
Disciples of Jesus must put JC 1st in
their lives, above everyone and
everything.
Must think carefully what JC
expects of his followers b4 make a
commitment.
The King Going To War
(Luke 14:31-32)
Once when large crowds od people
were going along with Jesus, he
turned and said to them that no
one can be his disciple UNLESS he
1.Loves Him > parents, wife, childn,
siblings & SELF
2.Carries his own cross & go after

If a king goes to war with 10K men
to fight against a king with 20K
men, he must first
1.Sit down & decide if his army is
strong enough to win.
2.If he feels his army is not strong
enough, then he should negotiate
for peace .
No one can be JCs discip[le unless
he gives up everything he has.

Suppose you have 100 sheep and
one of them is lost.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
You would leave the 99 sheep in
the pasture and go looking for the
lost one. UNTIL YOU FIND IT.
When you find it, you will be so
happy, you will carry it home and
celebrate with your friends and
neighbours.
The parable
Suppose a woman has 10 silver
coins and loses one of them.
WHAT DOES SHE DO?
She
1.Lights a lamp
2.Sweeps her house
2.Looks EVERYwhere until she finds
it.
When she finds it she will be so
happy that she will celebrate with
her friends and neighbours.
There was once a man who had 2
sons, the younger son wanted his
share of property.
The father divided the property
betwn his 2 sons.
A few days later, the younger son
sold off his share and left home
with the money.
He went to a faraway ctry, wasted
his money on reckless living .
Famine came and he has nothing
left.
He went to work, took car of pigs
and wished he could feed on the
pigs food as he had nothing to eat.
He came to his senses and returned
home; even his fathers hired help
have more than they can eat!
He planned to go home, seek
forgivness from his father and ask
to be treated as a hired help.
His father spotted him from a
distance, his heart filled with pity.
He ran , hugged and kissed him.
The son repented and confessed to
his unworthiness to be his child.
The father then beckons his
servants to -
clothe his son with the best robes
put a ring on his finger & shoes on
his feet
Slaughter the prized calf .
The father wanted to celebrate
with a feast the return of his son
who was
-given up for dead , but now alive
-lost but now found
MEANTIME..
Older son on his way home
from the field. Heard the music &
dancing.
Found out hat had happened and
got angry and wld not enter hse.
Father came out to beg him to go
in.
He claimed that he has worked like
a slave and never disobeyed all the
past yrs. Yet he had never been gvn
any goat for a feast. But now his
bro who had wasted all his
inheritance and returned , he got
the prized calf for a feast!
His father replied that he had
always been with him & that
everything he had was his (the
sons) but the happy celebration
was because his brother who was
dead. Now alive, was lost, now had
been found.

There will be more joy in heaven The angels of God will rejoice over The angels of God will rejoice over

righteous Pharisees who saw no

Master praised his shrewdness.
Gods people shld be wise to make
use of what God has given them to
help those in need. These friends
would in the future show their
gratitude when they welcome
Meaning those who helped them into
heaven. In this way wordly wealth
may be used wisely to gain eternal
benefits.

The Rich Man & Lazarus
(Luke 16:19-31)
Jesus had just referred to the Law
of Moses and the writings of the
prophets which he stated would all
be fulfilled right down to the
minutest detail.

Rich man, expensv clothes, lived in
luxury daily.
Poor man, Lazarus, covered in
sores, always at the rich mans door
hoping for bits of food off the rich
mans table.
Poor man died, was brought by
angels to sit beside Abraham at the
feast in heaven.
Rich man died and is buried. He
went to Hades, was in great pain.
Looked up and saw Abraham, far
away, with Laza.
Called out Father Abraham! Asked
to be taken pity off and requested
that Laza dip his fingr in cool water
to cool off his tongue.
Abe reminded rich man of his
lifetime of gd things and Lazas hard
life and the reversal of fortunes
now.
Deep pit separates Rich man and
Laza. No crososvrs.
There is the implication that the
rich mans sufferg was not due to
riches but to his neglect of Scripture
& its teaching. If a persons mind
was closed to the Scriptures, then
no evidence, not even a
resurrection of someone from the
dead, wld change him.
The Rich Man & Lazarus
(Luke 16:19-31)
Rich man then begged Abe to send
Laza to his fathers house to warn
his 5 bros so they can avoid going to
his place of pain.
-Abe replied that his bros had
Moses & the prophets to warn
them & that his bro shld listen.
Rich man said that would not be
enough; but that if someone were
to rise fr death & go to them then
they would turn fr their sins.
Abe replied that if they wld not
listen to Moses & prophets, they
wld not believe even if someone
were to rise from death.
not lose heart in prayer.
The Widow & The Judge
(Luke 18:2-5)
Jesus told his disciples this parable
to teach them that they should
always pray and never become
discouraged.

a judge who neither feared God nor
respected man.
a widow who kept coming too the
judge to plead for her rights Help
me against my opponent!
Judge refused to act for a long time.
AT LAST , he did.
WHY?
His thoughts - Even though I dont
fear God or respect man, yet
because of all the trouble this
widow is giving me, I will see to it
that she gets her rights. If I dont ,
she will keep on coming and finally
wear me out!
We should always be persistent and
will be humbled and everyone who
If the unjust judge could answer a
persistent request, how much more
our just God will judge in favour of
us who persist in prayer.
The Pharisee & The Tax Collector
(Luke 18:10-14)
Jesus told this parable to people
who were sure of their own
goodness and despised everybody
else.

A Pharisee & a tax collector went up
to the Temple to pray.
Pharisee stood apart by himself &

I fast 2 days and gv a 10th of all my

Tax collector stood at a distance,
wld not even raise his face to

God have pity on me, a sinner!
JC said that the tax collector and
not the Pharisee was in the right
with God.
Everyone who makes himself great
humbles himself with be made
great.
Parables Luke The Gold Coins
19 - 20 (Luke 19:12-27)
Jesus had just received Zaccheaus into
salvation and stated his (JC) purpose
What led to was to seek and save the lost.
Parable Now almost at Jerusalem, the people
were expecting the Kingdom of God to
appear.

Man of high rank was going to a
faraway ctry to be made a king, after
which he planned to come home.
Before he left he gave a gold coin to
each of his10 servants and instructed
them to see what they cld earn with
the coins while he was away.

want him to be their king.
The man was made king, returrned and
The parable called for his 10 servants to see how
much they had earned fr each of their
coins
1st one earned 10 coins, got praised ,
put in charge of 10 cities as reward for
faithfulness.
Meaning

The Gold Coins
(Luke 19:12-27)
2nd one earned 5 coins, rewarded with
5 cities under his charge.
Another one returned his one coin
which he had kept hidden in a
handkerchief. Told King he was afraid of
him because king was a hard man who
took what was not his and reaped what
he did not plant.
King was furious, called him a bad
servant and told him that if he had
thought so harshly of him (the king)
then why did he not at least out the
money in the bank so that he would
have received it back with interest.
The king ordered that the gold coin be
taken away fr him and given to the
servant who had 10 coins.
We are to remain faithful and use our God-
given gifts for Gods purposes until JC
returns.
Judgement comes for those who reject JC.
The Gold Coins
(Luke 19:12-27)
Those who were there remarked that
the servant already had 10 coins.
The king replied that to everyone who
has somehting, MORE will be given; but
the person who has nothing, even the
little that he has will be taken away fr
him.
And as for those enemies who did not
want him to be king, he ordered them to
be brought before him and killed in his
presence.
The Wicked Tenant
(Luke 20:9-16)
The Chief Priests and Teachers of Law
together with the elders had questioned
Jesus authority to cleanse the Temple by
driving out the merchants as he did in Luke
19:45-46.

A man planted a vineyard, rented it out
to tenants and left home for a long time.
At harvest time, he sent a slave to the
tenants receive his share of the grape
harvest.
The tenants beat the slave & sent him
home emptyhanded.
Slave #2 got beaten, treated shamefully
and sent home emptyhanded.
Slave #3 got wounded & thrown out.
Owner then sent his own dear son
thinking tenants would respect him.
But tenants saw the son and conspired
to kill son so that the property wld then
be theirs.
Tenants killed the son.
What wld happen to the tenants?
Owner of vineyard wld then kill the
tenants and turn the vineyard over to
other tenants.
J C knew that He would be killed soon, to
fulfill Scripture.
People may reject or oppose JC but it is
they who would suffer in the end, when
judgement comes.
