AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION

Air conditioning is designed to maintain

selected air temperature and humidity conditions
for the crew and cargo compartments/passengers
along with the pressurization.

The system cab be operated at all engine

ratings on ground or in air except at TAKE OFF
power rating.

This system is provided to keep cargo cabin at low
temperature and crew cabin at high/normal temperature.
If required keep the cargo compartment at below 15C
temperature. The air is taken for additional heating from
the STBD eng only by an electrical actuator.

 OPERATION ON GROUND

Having started the engines the system can be

operated as follows:
CABIN AIR COND SYS switch MANUAL AUTO
TEMP SETTER switch 20C/Selected desired temperature
AIR FLOW RATE (PORT/STBD) Select to OPEN to achieve a flow rate
of 2.5-3 UNITS then select to AUTO

Do not select airflow rate switch to AUTO mode directly.

After the eng have attained ground idle RPM, place the
AIR FLOW RATE (PORT/STBD) switch to OPEN position 3
to 5 sec with interval of 1 to 2 sec up to 2.5-3 UNITS then
only change to AUTO mode. Itll be within 3.5 to 4.5
UNITS.
NOTE 1: Once the airflow rate is selected to
AUTO, the flow rate should be settle between 3.5-
4.5 UNITS and the supplied air temperature
should be between 2-120C.

NOTE 2: Air temperature drop to minus 20C and

raise up to plus 150C within less than 5 minutes
is permissible.

NOTE 3: Prior to executing take off the air

conditioning system should be switched OFF by
placing the AIR FLOW RATE switch to CLOSED
position.
 OPERATION IN FLIGHT
After take off, having engine power rating to MAX,
continuously switch ON the system. If it was
turned OFF prior to take off by placing the AIR
FLOW RATE switch to AUTO. Check air flow rate
between 3.5-4.5 UNITS and supplied air
temperature between 2-120C.
NOTE: The difference between the cargo cabin
temperature & the selected temperature should
not be more than 6C. if greater than that, adjust
by using the TEMPERATURE SETTER.
CAUTION: In case of wing & tail unit ice
protection system is in operation, manually
reduce the air flow rate down to 2 UNITS.
 SWITCHED OFF

Before engines are shut down and opening of

cargo doors. System should be OFF as follows:

AIR FLOW RATE (PORT/STBD) OFF and Monitor air flow rate drops
to ZERO
ALL SYSTEM SWITCHES Place to Initial position
