The Space : It is defined by the bamboo
shelter surrrounded by the artificial lakes adjoining the bamboo forests.
Construction : The entire subjects is
made up of about 7000 bamboo elements Bamboo wing takes the form of bird wings and floats over the natural landscape of the site situated nearHanoi, Vietnam. The aim of the project was to study bamboo and the potential space it can create by using bamboo not only as a finishing material but as a structural one. This building is a pure bamboo structure, using no steel or other man-made structural materials.
The space is defined by bamboo
pillars over which a bamboo roof is rested upon. This unique structure, flying over the sky as bird wings, allows us to experience a 12 meter open space without any vertical columns. The open space can be used for many purposes such as wedding parties, live music concerts, ceremonies etc. The shape of the roof as bird wings is good for capturing the wind inside the building. This contributes to the ecology aspect by minimizing the use of air conditioner. With its deep eaves and the water in the open spaces, people feel as if they are living in the nature. The same structure is repeated through out the cafe The core is made by tying bamboos (10 cm dia). It is then tied to the secondary layer of bamboos tat act as the tensile support of the roof Corrugated iron caps are used in the gutter from the roofs so as to protect the underlying bamboo from damage The project uses the principles of aerodynamic design. When designing the caf, computer simulationsof the spaces were used to study the airflow and the cooling capacity of the water. These studies have allowed us to reduce the use of electrical energy such as air conditioning, lowering the buildings energy costs. The whole building is constructed by 7,000 bamboo elements which have been treated using traditional Vietnamese methods. The bamboo structure has no concrete columns, but uses wire bracing supports. The V-shaped roof relates to the surrounding trees and createsan open space with breathtaking views. CLIMATE The climate here is tropical. There is significant rainfall in most months of the year. The short dry season has little effect on the overall climate. The average annual temperature is 26.0 C in Vietnam. Precipitation here averages 1561 mm Why bamboo? In contrast to tree harvesting, there is simply no comparison to the replenishment rate of growing bamboo. Bamboo can be harvested every three to six years for construction purposes (depending on the species); whereas trees range from 25 years (for softwoods) to 50 years (for hardwoods). Fire Resistance: Capability of bamboo to resist fire is very high and it can withstand temperature up to 4000 C. This is due to the presence of high value of silicate acid and water. 35% higher oxygen emission into the atmosphere than trees 40% more CO2 absorption than trees Establishing an extensive root system into soils, which in turn draws in and stores double the amount of water into watersheds, thus preventing soil erosion Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of University of East Anglia (UEA). http://www.greenbuild.org/new-construction/uses-for-bamboo-in- sustainable-building / https://theconstructor.org/building/bamboo-as-a-building-materi al-uses-advantages/14838 / https://en.climate-data.org/location/789736/ http://www.archdaily.com/226203/wnw-cafe-vo-trong-nghia? ad_medium=widget&ad_name=recommendation
