ICT as a Platform for

Change
MOTIVATION

For a moment, imagine the Internet

has disappeared and will never
come back. What do you think will
happen? List down your thoughts
and share them in class.
The Role of ICT in Recent History
EDSA People Power Revolution

The Philippines was praised worldwide in 1986, when

the so-called bloodless revolution erupted, called
EDSA People Powers Revolution. February 25, 1986
marked a significant national event that has been
engraved in the hearts and minds of every Filipino.
This part of Philippine history gives us a strong sense
of pride especially that other nations had attempted
to emulate what we have shown the world of the
true power of democracy.
EDSA Dos

The EDSA Revolution of 2001, also

called by the local media as EDSA
II (pronounced as Edsa dos) or the
Second People Power Revolution,
is the common name of the four-
day popular revolution that
peacefully overthrew Philippine
President Joseph Estrada in
January 2001. He was succeeded
by his then vice president Gloria
Macapagal-Arroyo.
Million People March

The so-called Million People March was the first of an ongoing

series of protests in the Philippines calling for the total abolition
of the Pork Barrel fund, triggered by public anger over the Priority
Development Assistance Fund scam. Initial calls circulated through
social media (mainly on Facebook and Twitter) to convene a
protest on August 26, 2013 at Luneta Park in Manila as well as
other cities nationwide and overseas. Some media commentators
consider this as the first ever massive rally in the Philippines
called and organised mostly through social media channels.
Though dubbed as the Million People March, the number of total
attendees was only around 400,000. Despite that, it was still
considered a success and clearly demonstrated how powerful
social media campaigns are.
Yolanda People Finder

Google has launched a Person Finder that allows individuals

to post messages and search for the status of family and
friends affected by the disaster.
If you're worried about someone, click on the button that
says "I'm looking for someone" and type in their name. If
you have information about someone in the area, or want
to let others know you are safe, click on the button "I have
information about someone" and enter name and details.
Change.org

Change.org is dubbed as the worlds platform for change where anyone

from the online community can create a petition and ask others to sign it.
During the past times, petitions are only done through signing a paper,
usually done by a group asking for signatures via travel. Change.org gives
access to more people by allowing the online community to affix their
digital signatures on a petition.
Change.orgs mission is to help people from around the world create the
change they want to see. For years, Change.org hosted several petitions
that help solve the following problems: economic problems, criminal
injustice, abuse of human rights, lack of education, environmental
concerns, animal abuse, human health concerns, and world hunger.
