POETRY

Is an art form in which human


language is used for its aesthetic
qualities .
It consists largely of oral and literary
works in which language is used in a
manner that is felt by its user and
audience to differ from ordinary prose.
Sound

Rhyme Scheme

- The pattern of end rhymes in lines of a


poem or song
- Usually referred to by using letters to
indicate which lines rhyme
Rhythm-
Alliteration repetition of consonant
sounds at the beginning of words.

Example:
Sally sells sea shells
The wild and woolly wirus waits and
wonders when well walk by.
Consonance the repetition of consonant
sounds within words in a line

Example:
The lint was sent with the tent repetition of

- Is a language that uses words with a

His heart was cold as ice.
Dance like no one is watching.
Love is like a red, red rose
Metaphor - comparison that does
not use like or as
Examples:

His smile is a ray of sunshine.

You are the light in my life.


Personification - giving an
object or animal human qualities.
Examples:
The lion yelled my name.
The stuffed bear smiled as the little girl
hugged him close.
The daffodils nodded their yellow heads
at the walkers.
Onomatopoeia - naming a thing or
an action by imitating the sound associated
with it.
Examples:
Roar, Buzz, Boom!
The buzzing bee flew away.
The sack fell into the river with a splash.
The books fell on the table with a loud
thump.
He looked at the roaring sky.
Hyperbole - exaggerrated
statements.
Examples:
It was so cold even the polar bears were
wearing jackets.
