What is Print Making

Printmaking is an art form that replicates
images onto another surface using many
different techniques.
RELIEF
INTAGLIO
LITHOGRAPHY
SCREEN
 COMMON TERMS
MATRIX: The surface of the printing plate that
will come in contact with the print.
ENGRAVE: using a TOOL to cut into the
printing plate surface to create a VALLEY.
ETCH: Using ACID to eat away a design on the
matrix
 TOOLS
GOUGE: An engraving knife
PLATE: what you cut into to create your image.
You will use a EASYCUT, but it can be made of
linoleum, wood, metal or stone
BRAYER: A rolling tool used to get ink onto the
matrix.
BARREN: A round tool used to transfer ink
through rubbing
INK PLATE: Where the ink is rolled out using the
brayer

PRINTING
You cut out what you
want left white.
Whatever is LEFT will
transfer the image-
you cut away the
white part of the
image. (NEGATIVE)

Your PRINT (edition)

will be MIRROR
