1. Renewable energy generating technology 2. Energy efficiency improvement technology 3. Technology for managing and monitoring energy usage. 1. Renewable Energy Generating Technology a. There are also potential renewable energy sources in Malaysia i. Biomass- palm oil and bio waste to serve as the input for generating electricity. ii. Solar- using Photovoltaic (PV) technology to harness the power of sunshine to supply electricity.
b. Solar energy is more convenient to be utilized in Malaysian
i. It makes use of renewable energy directly from sun and receive abundant of sunshine throughout the year. ii. It can significantly reduces electricity cost in a year. iii. It is reliable and virtually maintenance free. iv. It does not produce greenhouse gases (CO2). v. It is renewable as long as the sun keeps shining. 2. Improvement of Energy Efficiency a. Energy efficiency is a reduction in the quantity of energy used per unit service provided.
b. Provide common building services such as Heating, Ventilation and Air
conditioning (HVAC) system. With HVAC system, low electricity is used to generate cooling air for lowering room-temperature. HVAC control system is a computerized climate control system for indoor environment instead of many existing HVAC systems are manually operated, adapting remotely operated HVAC control system.
c. Building insulation is the method of preventing heat or cold air from
escaping and entering the building. Insulators can be used to minimize the transfer of such energy, where improving energy efficiency in Malaysian buildings that uses a large proportion of total monthly energy consumption. 3. Energy Usage Management and Monitoring a.One of the effective methods of conserving energy is to operate equipment whenever it is needed to achieve energy saving. The equipment can be switched off automatically when there is no one using it. Energy consumption can be monitored and managed properly through tools such as 1. Motion sensor- including security and energy savings like a sensor automatically turns lights on when movement is detected and off when movement stops . Example: Lighting in toilets.
2. Building Energy Management System (BEMS)- a microcomputer systems
used for controlling and monitoring building services plant. It can be invested to control and monitor the buildings temperatures as can reduce energy used.
