Ping Watch Dog and Telnet for

Wireless PTP and PTMP

Presented by: Rizwan Altaf

Project Manager and Supervisor: Mohammad Abdullah

OBJECTIVE

To gain more stability in links by using built in options

i.e. Ping Watch Dog and Telnet.
To minimize the physical visits of FE just to reboot the
MW.
Configuration can be changed through Telnet or SSH.
Block Diagram Description
If GW is reachable it will
sends acknowledgement
to MW or If not then MW
will reboot it self and so
on and so far.

GO MPLS

10.65.20.1

ICMP Echo request will

be send to GW of GO after
specific time interval
Ping Watch Dog and Telnet
Ping Watch Dog is a process of watching its
neighbors or basically it allows the MW to be
accessible with its network if MW get frozen or lost it
connectivity with network.

Telnet is a user command and an underlying TCP/IP

protocol for accessing remote computers. As most of
the times we faced issue that signal strength is not
good of remote end MW so by using telnet we can
reboot MW or even we can configure MW parameters
if we are not able to reach far end MW through GUI.
Brief Description Ping Watch Dog
IP Address To Ping Specify the IP address of the target host to be monitored by
Ping Watchdog.

Ping Interval Specify the time interval (in seconds) between the ICMP echo
requests that are sent by Ping
Watchdog. The default value is 300 seconds.

Startup Delay Specify the initial time delay (in seconds) until the first ICMP echo
request is sent by Ping. Watchdog. The default value is 300 seconds.
The Startup Delay value should be at least 60 seconds as the network and wireless
connection initialization takes a considerable amount of time if the device is
rebooted.

Failure Count to Reboot Specify the number of ICMP echo response replies. If the
specified number of ICMP echo response packets is not received continuously,
Ping Watchdog will reboot the device. The default value is 3.

Save Support Info This generates a support information file in case Ping Watchdog
reboots the device.
Brief Description of Telnet Commands

Following are the websites to get telnet commands to

Change MW parameters.

Advantages Of using Ping Watch Dog and Telnet

By using these two options we can minimize our Field

Visits or we can utilize those resources for other things.
