Do the English Speak English?

To celebrate my graduation as a Doctor of Philosophy in

English language, I went London. After a long journey I arrived in
London at last. The railway station was big and busy. I did not know
the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I tried to speak clearly and
slowly. The porter, however, could not understand me. I repeated my
questions several times and at least he understood. He answered
me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. I did not understand him.
I told him that I was a foreigner. He smiled and said: Youll soon
learn English.
