TIPS FOR PET

SPEAKING SECTION
You will be asked questions individually by the examiner. The questions will be about
Part 1 your life and you may be asked questions about the present, past and future. Focus on
good pronunciation, and extending your answers just a little.

You will be given some images and will be asked to interact with your partner. You
will need to discuss, make and respond to suggestions, and come to an agreement at
Part 2 the end. Focus on giving your opinions and supporting them with reasons, while also
responding to your partners suggestions and opinions. Listen to what your partner
says and develop a conversation.

You will be given a colour photograph and, individually, will need to be able to
describe and speculate about what you see for up to 1 minute.
Part 3
*To speculate means you have to say what you think you see. See below for more
details.

This is a general conversation based on the topic of the photographs in part 3. Youll
work with your partner and you both need to give opinions, talk about your
Part 4
likes/dislikes, preferences, experiences, habits etc. Again, try to develop a
conversation.

General tips for speaking

1. Listen to the examiners instructions carefully


and ask if you dont understand.
2. Always speak clearly so that the examiners can
hear you.
3. Dont worry if you make a grammatical mistake-
you can still get good mark if you make mistakes.
4. Try to have normal conversations.React to what
the examiner and your partner says to you.
5. Dont worry if the examiner stops you before you
have finished everything that you want to say.Its
because the test is carefully timed.
6. Say what you think, but give your partner time to
talk too and show interest in what your partner
says.
7. Relax and try not to be nervous-enjoy the
experience.
