5th SEM,EEE VVCE V.A.A.S Technology V.A.A.S stands for Vibration Assisted Alert System. The devices that we encounter these days such as door bells ,smoke/fire detectors ,Telephones and alarms capture our attention through sound. Ever thought of what a deaf person might do in these situations? Problems encountered by deaf people Apart from disability of hearing ,Deaf people face a lot of problem in day to day life such as- 1.Not getting announcement at public places. 2.Communication in the dark is next to impossible. 3. Constantly Jumpy, As they Never Know When Someone Is Approaching them From Behind. 4.rely on touch to get attention of others. 5.Sign language- not universal and can be misunderstood easily. 6. Looking After Hearing Aids Takes A Lot Of Maintenance Vibration assisted alerting technology. One of the simplest technology used to provide deaf people with an alert that a sound is present within their vicinity. V.A.A.S gadgets can signal your attention and/or indicate the presence of sounds in the environment through one of three ways: providing a louder sound (for people who are hard of hearing), providing a light flash, or causing a tactile vibration V.A.A.S devices for deaf pedestrian Deaf people are prone to accidents because of being unaware of speeding vehicles or any dangers of traffic. Statistics show that in 2013, there were 1.25 million road traffic deaths globally.(source:WikiPedia) amongst which involved nearly 15% of people being deaf.
Speedster Alert Device
Uses microphone and a microcontroller and a vibrating device to enable deaf person to become aware of environment he is in.
MICROPHONE DECIBEL ADJUSTER ARDUINO MC OSCILLATOR
Working of speedster alert device The user attaches the microphone to his collar. Range of sound for which user has to be alerted is set using decibel adjuster . Upon receiving screeching and revving sounds by a speeding vehicle the microphone sends the received sound to Arduino . This Microcontroller upon command code triggers the mechanical oscillator . So the user to whose wrist the oscillator is attached is vibrated ,thereby alerting him of the surroundings Other uses of this tech. Can be used in Train stations and airports so that upon vibration the person gets alert regarding a speedy train or announcement about flight arrival. this device gives the ability for deaf people to receive phone calls Alarm Answer Door when door bell rings. To help a person to know if the child/baby is crying. to know if the fire alarm/smoke alarm is triggered etc. Advantages of this device. Almost acts as hearing aid. Component costs way lesser than traditional hearing device VAAS device-(Rs.1200/- approx.) Traditional Hearing device-Rs.9000 (Unitron shine Bte hearing aid device). Allows deaf people to react to any potential danger. Thank You for listening
