THE EFFIECIENCY OF ROAD

INTERSECTION IN TRAFFIC
MANAGEMENT ALONG
RIZAL STREET,
VIGAN CITY

RESEARCH PROBLEM
Serious proportion has been reached of traffic and some environmental problems, affecting resident
with different vehicles travelling everyday at Rizal Street Vigan city. We all know that the traffic
problem has a negative impact on our society. This problem should be addressed on higher authority
and for this reason our group agreed to choose one particular area in Vigan City that is affected with
heavy traffic. And our group had chosen the Rizal Street.
The purpose of the research is to develop an intersection that is capable of minimizing traffic
congestion. As the city of Vigans population increases so does the demand of transportation
facilities. In order to make significant progress for the decongestion of traffic, designing the
intersection must be the main focus which recommends a method such as major factors in improving
the intersection.
Increased travel time is the most direct consequence of road traffic congestion. But it is not the only
cost. Congestion incurs both tangible and intangible costs to individual road users as well as our
society. For example, apart from time wasted when people are caught in congestion, the low mobility
adversely affects the business sectors. When goods or services cannot be delivered on time, the
business sectors need to incur additional inventory costs and logistics costs.
The transportation and highway engineering is the application of technology and systematic principle
to the planning, designing and managing the facilities for any mode of transportation in order to
provide for safe, rapid, convenient economical and environmental.
OBJECTIVES
This research aims at the effectivity of developing an intersection and policies
as well. Hence, the following objectives were formulated :
To provide efficient economical environmental compatible road system.
To ensure a safe and effective transportation.
To minimize accident.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The result of the study will surely help the community especially the City of
Vigan, the Engineering department of the local government in their effort
to address traffic problem such as accidents and traffic congestions. The
study aims to promote safety on the motorist that passes through Rizal
Street. And also to reduce wasted time for delivering goods or services
therefore favorably improving the business sectors.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

This research study focuses on the designing of efficient intersection that


will help or can cause better traffic scheme in favour of minimizing the delay
of traffic accident upon entering a significant place. It also covers the
congestions of traffic scheme and eventually how it affects the time during
rush hours. This research is applicable on the intersections along Rizal Street
taking into account the actual and physical count of vehicles.
This study is limited on the analysis of the flow and actual traffic situation
the said area. It does not cover the exact design.

METHOD OF RESEARCH

The method used in our research was descriptive research. Descriptive


research is fact finding study with adequate and accurate interpretation of
the findings. It describes with emphasis what actually exist such as current
conditions, practices, situations or phenomena. Since the present study was
concerned about the congestion of traffic along Rizal Street, Vigan City.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE RESEARCH
1. Actual observation on sight
Behavior of motorist and pedestrian
Physical properties of intersections
Traffic flow observation
2. Volume count survey
This survey is conducted in order to appreciate the traffic characteristics in terms of
traffic composition, peak hour traffic, and directional split in individual survey
locations.
