Multilevel inverters mainly used in medium voltage and high
power applications .
Widely used MLI are Neutral point clamped , Flying capacitor,
Cascaded H bridge .
MLI have the ability to produce quality sine wave in their
output with fewer harmonics . Topology suggested here reduces the number of switches &
losses in MLI .
To produce m voltage levels in the output of the MLI, (m+1)
power electronic semiconductor switches are used .
CASCADED H BRIDGE MULTILEVEL INVERTER Built to synthesize a desired AC voltage from several levels of DC . DC levels are considered to be identical . It requires least number of components compared to the other type of MLI . It consists of number of H bridge inverter units with separate dc source for each unit . This is connected in series or cascade form . Each produces three different voltage levels +E ,0, -E by connecting the dc source to ac output side by different combinations of four switches .
The ac outputs of different full bridge inverters are connected
in series .
The synthesized voltage waveform is the sum of the inverter
outputs . PROPOSED TOPOLOGY In multilevel inverter topologies no of devices depends on the voltage level .
Increase in switches increases the cost , complexity & installation
area.
This topology provides higher output levels with reduced number of
switches .
Here five levels are obtained in the output -+2E , +E , 0 ,-E, -2E. E voltage of single dc source .
(m-1)/2 dc sources of equal values are used & produces m
levels in output waveform .
For value of voltage level E and +E diodes D4 and D5
conducts .
D4 ,D5 not work as freewheeling but also as active switches
carrying load currents . COMPARISON Conventional cascaded H bridge for m levels -2*(m-1) number of switches per phase .
In the proposed model number of switches are (m+1) for m
levels .
Proposed model losses are reduced as well as considering
bulk production of units , it can turn into significant savings . CONCLUSION In this project a new MLI structure is proposed without making use of any transformer and capacitors .
Reduces size , cost and losses .
Modular design can help in increasing the number of output
