54.

General requirement of loading

Dead and imposed loads and wind loads shall be calculated in accordance with this
part provided that in the case where:

a) Imposed load to a building will exceed the load to calculate in accordance with this

part.

b) Plant, machinery or equipment will produce exceptional dynamics effects.

c) The shall be substituted for the imposed load calculated in accordance such

greater amount.

d) Produce stresses of a magnitude and kind approximating to that induced

dynamically.
The loads to which a building will be subjected:

a) Dead loads shall be calculated with BSCP 3 Chap. V. Part I or as provided

hereinafter in this part.

b) Imposed loads shall be calculated with BSCP 3 Chap. V Part I or as hereinafter in

this part.

c) Wind loads shall be calculated with BSCP 3 Chap. V Part 2, provided:

o No case shall the factor S3 be taken as less than 1

o If a building fall outside the range, value shall be used which are appropriate in

relation the building.

56. Dead loads calculated from weight of materials used

Dead loads shall be calculated from unit weight given in


BS 648 or from the actual known weights of the materials

Typical values for commonly used materials are


laid out in the Fourth Schedule to these By-laws.
