Abstract
An aqueduct Structure is a complex structure as compared to bridge. It takes
canal water across stream and canal traffic over the trough. The water
tightness and free expansions and contractions of trough, canal water load as
well as traffic load on the trough. It involves complex and combinations, for
which the super structure of it is required to be planned and designed using
STAADpro Software. An aqueduct which is located in puligadda and
designed as a syphon aqueduct type-3 across the delta areas to provide
drinking water and irrigation water to fertile soil for the surrounding areas of
Diviseema.
Objectives Considered

Cross Drainage Works
Irrigation canals while carrying water from head
works to crop field, have to cross few natural
drainage streams, nallaha, etc..
Cross drainages safely by canals:
Require suitable structures to construct.
Require works to construct.
At the meeting point of canals and drainages, bed
levels may not be same
Different structures are constructed and designated
by different names depending on their bed levels.

Construction problems
Necessity of Cross Drainage Works
Water-shed canal do not cross natural drainages.
In actual orientation:
Ideal conditions may not be available
Obstacles like natural drainage may
present across the canal
So, the cross drainage works must be provide
for running the irrigation system.
The drainage works are provided to maintain
their natural direction of flow.
Types of Cross Drainage
Type 1: (Irrigation canal passes over the Drainage)
Aqueduct
Syphon Aqueduct
Type 2: (Drainage passes over the Irrigation canal)
Super Passage
Syphon Super Passage
Type 3: (Drainage and canal intersection each other of same level)
Level Crossing
Inlet and Outlet
Syphon Aqueduct
In a Hydraulic Structure where the canal is
taken over the drainage, but the drainage
water cant pass clearly below the canal.
It flows under the syphonic action.
So, it is known as syphon aqueduct.
It is suitable when the bed level of canal is
below the highest flood level.
