Predecessor of Windows Vista Windows XP

They differ considerably in regards to their security architecture,

networking technologies, management and administration, shell and user
interface, and mobile computing.
Vista faces backward compatibility problems with many of the games and
utility programs that work in Windows XP.
Windows XP outperforms Vista in several productivity areas, like File
Copying in terms of performance.
In most editions of Windows Vista, the default theme is Windows Aero
while Luna is the default visual style in Windows XP.
Predecessor of Windows Vista Windows XP

Windows Vista runs 15% slower than a computer with Windows XP

installed.
Vista requires 512MB of memory to even run, 1GB minimum to run
comfortably.
Vista was unstable during the initial release, patches were being created,
unlike Windows XP.
Problems with printing, the printer doesn't seem to print out work, photos
etc.
Shutdown procedure is more confusing than XP.
Conclusion

Windows Vista contained a number of new features, from a redesigned

shell and user interface to significant technical changes, with a particular
focus on security features.
It has been subject to some criticism, such as drop of performance, longer
boot time and stricter license agreement.
The software bloat has had the effect of slowing down Windows Vista,
especially when it's running on anything but the latest and fastest
hardware.
Even the latest version of Windows XP soundly outperforms the latest
version of Microsoft Vista.
Its successor, Windows 7, was a more focused, incremental upgrade to
the Windows line.
