Abstract
Study Selection Modes of Transport to campus by students of UB aims to
identify the characteristics of the selection modes of transport and determine the
factors that influence the students in the choice of mode of transportation to the
campus.
This study was conducted by using descriptive analysis of the characteristics of
the selection modes of transport by students and evaluative methods such as
correlation analysis of variables that affect the selection modes of transport and
modeling analysis of election modes of transport by UB students.
The results showed that local students were walking (17.7%), then bicycles
(0.5%), motorcycles (53.1%), cars (5.7%) and public transportation
(22.9%).
Analysis selection model is known that there are four (4) in the election model
of transportation to campus that is travel time (0,039), travel costs (-
0.0002), distance (-0.0398) and intensity change of modes (-0.253).
The conclusion of this study explains that variable travel time, travel costs,
mileage and intensity change of modes of transportation is a variable that
affects the students in choosing a mode of transportation to the campus of UB.
Introduction
The development and rapid growth of today's society has a tremendous impact
on many aspects of life, ranging from improved space for community activities
through an increase in the movement of people.
noteworthy is increase the movement of which is influenced by the development
of the area / population, especially in urban areas that were not able to
respond to the management or the planning of transportation systems well, until
eventually lead to various problems such as congestion.
The first step that can be done is to determine the characteristics of the
students in doing the movement toward the campus, particularly in the choice of
transport mode to be used.
the purpose of the implementation of this study as mentioned earlier
Scope
1. The scope of the region
In general the location of the study area is located in UB, but which
became the point of observation in the study is the gate or entrance to the
campus area of the gate at Jalan MT. Haryono, the gate in front of the
Bridge Sukarno Hatta as well as the gate on Jalan Veteran.
2. The scope of material
The substance of research include:
a)Analysis of the characteristics of the transport modal choice by students
b)Analysis of the factors in the choice of transport mode
c)Modeling analysis to determine the right model associated with the
selection of modes of transport by students to achieve campus
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
1. Characteristics Selection Mode Toward Campus
Characteristics of the selection modes of transport. It describes the
characteristics toward college students as respondents in the study this up with
the type of transportation mode selected respondents to reach the campus. The
total number of respondents in the study as many as 192 people.
Deifferentiated by:
a)Gender
b)age
c) Origin Faculty
d)vehicle ownership
e)possession of a driving license
f) income level
g)traveling time
h)the travel costs
i) mileage
j) intensity change of mode
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
2. Influence Factor Analysis Selection Mode of Transportation
The analysis is used to see how much the relationship between student
characteristics, consisting of gender, possession of a driving license, the intensity
change of mode, comfort mode, security mode, easy mode as well as the
availability of the media against the selection of modes that are used by
students is a contingency analysis.

3. Analysis Model Selection Mode of Transportation

Model modal choice of passenger transport modes to the campus of UB
between public transport and private transport were obtained in the study of this
thesis is the binomial logit model with a utility function between the two modes
in the form of linear equations.
Conclusions

1. Characteristics of Transportation Mode Selection Used by Students to Achieve

Campus
Based on the results of direct surveys, also known that local students who use the
mode of transport of non motor with walking and biking to campus for a relatively
small proportion of the number that is equal to 17.7% and 0.5% of the total
number of local students. Meanwhile, most local students using motorized transport
modes that is motorcycle proportion accounted for 53.1% of the total number of
local students.

2. Influencing factors the Selection Mode of Transportation Students Toward Campus

explains that variable travel time, travel costs, mileage and intensity change of
modes of transportation is a variable that affects the students in choosing a mode
of transportation to the campus of UB.
Conclusions
3. Sensitivity Test
From the results of a sensitivity test on the three factors that have determined that
is the cost factor trip transportation, travel time factor and factor intensity change of
the mode then obtained the following results:
a) Sensitivity Analysis The travel time
Based on calculations, the greater the difference in travel time, the estimated
probability of selecting public transportation to the campus will be even
greater.
b) Sensitivity Analysis Travel Costs
Based on the calculation of changes in foreign travel cost attribute it can be
seen that the greater the change in the travel cost difference between private
transport with public transport then the probability of selecting private
transport will be even greater.
c) Sensitivity Analysis The intensity change of mode
The greater the frequent change of modes is done on the way to the campus
the more it will increase the probability in the selection of private transport.
Suggestion
Some suggestions are given related to the selection of study modes of transport used by
students to reach college (University of Brawijaya) :
1. Characteristics of the selection of this mode of transportation can be used as a basis for
planning transportation infrastructure in the internal environment of UB's campus and around the
campus area.
2. Increased costs by 10% to reduce private car modal choice, a policy that can be taken in
connection with the increase of the above factors is to increase parking rates for private vehicles
so as to reduce the use of private vehicles.
3. Increased travel time is longer by using public transport will increase modal choice by private
vehicle it indicates that these modes are considered unfavorable in terms of time so that the
policy can be taken to anticipate was disciplined with time of departure, the travel route is clear
and regularly for public transport.
4. Given the use of private cars are increasingly numerous, it is advisable to increase parking rates
especially for private cars, thus reducing the use of private cars.
5. Require further research to include other factors that have not been mentioned in this study such
as social and economic factors, as well as the weather.
6. Need to do studies related to the selection of the mode of transportation at several other
universities in Malang or colleges in other cities. As a comparison model that has been
generated by this study.
