Ultimate Aim
 Knowledge of God, self realization,
spiritualism and oneness with God.
Immediate Aims
 Vocational Aim:
self supporting education.

 Cultural Aim:
refinement of personality.
lead to quality of mind.
enables the students to ate and
appreciate other cultures.
 Harmonious Development Aim:
Harmoniously Developed person is that who
adjusts to his life and environment.

Head, Heart and Hand are more important


than the 3 R’s

 The Moral or Character Building Aim:


If choices is to be made between character
and other things in life, then everything else
can be subordinated to the former.
 Training for Citizenship or Sociological
Aim:
Every member of the society should be
educated so that he could uplift it.

The essential qualities of a good citizen


are: Spirit of Courage, Self Sacrifice and
Industry.
Curriculum
 Education should be life centered and
activity centered.
 Craft centered curriculum to train man
by development of his school.
 Craft was the starting point of all
cultures.
 He suggested domestic science for girls.
 Also includes mother tongue, arithmetic,
social studies, general science, art, music..
Text Book
 Do not lead children with books.

 The teacher is the real text book.


 Text book should be suitable for Indian
context.
 For primary, oral education is enough, as
the child learns more by observation.
Methods of Teaching
 Children should be educated through basic craft.
 Mother tongue should be the medium of
instruction.
 The basic scheme emphasizes on learning by
doing method.
 The child is kept active through creative and
productive activities.
 Correlation should be established among different
academic subjects.
Discipline
 Self Discipline is self control ie, not
imposed from outside sources.

 Social discipline will comes from craft


activities.

 Moral Discipline is essential for knowing


God. Purity of heart is the is the
important condition for feeling the
presence of God.
 Voluntary Discipline is the synthesis of
freedom and internal control.
Role of a Teacher
 Teacher should be energetic.
 Should be an example by his attitudes and
values.
 Should possess the qualities he wishes to
inculcate in pupils.
 Should help pupil to distinguish between good
and bad, true and false.
 Should provide free and fearless environment.
