Business” report
 In the world's top 40 in terms of ease of trade across borders, with
outstanding performance in terms of import and export costs
 According to the UN Conference on Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD)
2014 report, Morocco was North Africa’s largest recipient of FDI in 2013,

Renewable Energies
The renewable energy sector in Morocco has significant potential
for growth due to :
• An estimated wind potential of 25 000 MW, out of which nearly

6000 MW will be attainable by 2030
• A solar potential due to 3 000 hours of sunshine a year and 5
KWh/m2/day of radiation
• Significant potential hydropower for micro-hydropower turbines:
more than 200 exploitable locations

Renewable Energies
Solar Plan
 National and ambitious project aiming at establishing by 2020 a capacity of
2.000 megawatts.
 Generating 52% of energy needs from renewable energies by 2030
 Five sites have been identified for the launch of that project:

“Noor Ouarzazate” Solar Complex
“Noor Ouarzazate” is the largest multi-technology solar

production site in the world with a capacity of 580 MW
 “Noor I” was launched in February 4, 2016 near the city of
Ouarzazate. It generates a capacity of 160MW, and is equipped
with a thermal energy storage device allowing it to operate at full
capacity for 3 hours without sunlight (after sunset or cloudy
weather)
With a capacity of 200 MW, “Noor II” will be equipped with
thermo-solar cylindrical parabolic troughs and 7 hours of energy
storage capability
“Noor III” will have an installed capacity of 150 MW, and will
employ central tower technology with salt receivers and 7 to 8
hours of energy storage capability
“Noor IV” will include the development of a 50 MW solar
photovoltaic power plant
Logistics
 The Moroccan logistics sector offers attractive opportunities for transportation,

integrated logistics services, and logistical infrastructure
 A new strategic vision for the logistics sector was due to the intensification in
the development and modernization of transport infrastructures as well as
improvement in land, air, and marine transport and logistics.
Measures Implemented
• Total investment of 6 billion euros, two thirds of which originate from the private
sector for the following :
– Development and implementation of a national integrated network of 70
Multi-Flow Logistics Zones (MFLZ)
– Incentivize the emergence of integrated and performing logistics players
– Skill Development through a national training plan for logistics professions
(61 000 participants through 2015)
Port of Tanger-Med
 Its particular position on the Straits of Gibraltar, at the crossing of two major
maritime routes, and 15km from the European Union enable it to serve a
market of hundreds of millions of consumers through the industrial and
commercial free zones which are run by well-known private operators
 It will reach a capacity of 8.5 million containers in 2017
 It also wins a big part of the market of container transshipment and has
already become a leading hub for cereal transshipment as well
 It is connected to 164 ports worldwide in 60 different countries
Logistics

Automobile
 The automobile manufacturing sector has been one of the Moroccan
economy’s best-performing in recent years. With nearly 400 000 cars
produced in 2015, Morocco became the largest automobile production
platform in the MENA region
 For the first time, the automotive sector became the first source of
Moroccan exports, by reaching 3.8 billion € (24% of total exports)
 Renault’s Tangier car factory, the biggest in Africa, required initial

investment of more than 1 billion € and will exceed its projected annual
production capacity of 400,000 vehicles in the coming years.
 With the new Peugeot Citroen Plant, car production should reach
650,000 units a year, with an aim of 1 million vehicles in the next 5
years.
Renault plant in Tangier
Renault aims to further expand its production capacity

in Morocco and is also considering setting up an
engine production plant to serve its production plants.
Thanks to a partnership between the Kingdom of

Morocco, Renault and Veolia Environment, the Tangier
plant, inaugurated on February 9th 2012, emits zero
carbon and zero industrial liquid discharges.
Peugeot Citroen Plant in Kenitra
In June 2015, Morocco signed an agreement to set up the PSA Peugeot

Citroen plant in the integrated industrial platform, Atlantic Free Zone in
the city of Kenitra (47 km north of the Capital Rabat).
The new factory, which should be completed by 2019, will produce

200,000 cars and 200,000 motorbikes a year and will generate 4.500
direct jobs and 20,000 indirect ones.

 The Moroccan aerospace industry is fast becoming one of the most
competitive manufacturing platforms in the world, with more than 100
supply chain companies established in less than 10 years with about
10,000 employees.
 Aerospace exports have increased annually 15% between 2009 and
2015. In 2014, aerospace exports reached 0.7 billion € and represented
4% of total Moroccan exports.
 The Free Zone Midparc (close to Casablanca Airport), inaugurated in
2013 and occupying 128 ha, includes ready-to-use facilities, shared
services for logistics, transport and catering and a business center.
Bombardier chose Morocco

 Bombardier invested $200 million on a manufacturing plant to build sub-
assemblies that will create 850 jobs by 2020.

Morocco’s Involvement in Africa
 Morocco has made doing business in Africa its defining philosophy in

the region, based on a strategy which capitalizes on the virtues of
South-South cooperation and on the need for balanced and
sustainable human development
 Morocco’s strategy is characterized by the exchange of experiences
and expertise in institutional capacity building, governance and
economic empowerment, as well as by the consolidation of academic
and vocational training programs and capacity building
 A significant increase in Moroccan public and private investment in
Africa, which enhances the value of local production, revamps the
economy and contributes to sustainable job creation
 Morocco is the second African investor in Africa (Moroccan
companies account for nearly 9 percent of the business transacted in
Africa)
 Launched in 2010, Casablanca Finance City (CFC) has become a major

financial hub for Africa. It has managed to attract and encourage
international institutions and investors to invest and operate in North, West
and Central Africa and using Casablanca as a gateway to access this region
(8000 companies already operational).

 Morocco is a member of several regional economic and trade bodies, including include
the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), the Common Market for the Eastern and Southern
Africa (COMESA), the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN- SAD) and the
Greater Arab Free Trade Agreement (GAFTA). Morocco is also a member of the EU-
oriented EuroMediterranean Partnership (EUROMED).
 Morocco has engaged in many activities to improve access to technologies,
infrastructure, and quality of life in Sub-Saharan Africa including technical assistance
and expertise-sharing in electrification, access to potable water, road and rail
infrastructure, telecommunications, and new technologies infrastructure in countries
including Senegal, Gambia, Niger, and Sierra Leone.
 Moroccan businesses and investors regard sub-Saharan Africa as an important
market. Some of which are Attijariwafabank, BMCE Bank, Maroc Telecom, l'Office
National de l'Electricité (ONE), Omnium Nord-Africain (ONA), SOTHEMA Maroc, and
Royal Air Maroc (RAM)
 Morocco has signed commercial accords with 16 countries, including Senegal, Gabon,
Niger, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, The
Democratic Republic of the Congo, Chad, and Guinea.
