CONTINUOUS INFINITIVE

WITH MODAL VERBS


MODAL VERB + BE + ING

Used when sth is probably (MIGHT), surely


(MUST), or surely not (CAN’T) happening right
now.
Examples:
 You must be joking. (I’m sure that you’re joking right now)
 She might be sleeping now. (Maybe she is sleeping now)
 She can’t be sleeping right now, she’s at work. (I’m sure she is
not sleeping right now)
 They might be feeling depressed. (They are probably feeling
depressed now)
 She must be drivng her car now. (I’m certain she is driving her
car now)
