QUIZ 2 ON WEDNESDAY
TEST 1 FRIDAY
Exercise 1:
1st check your work for the notes last
given in class with sub. See the key
below.( on website- not ppt)
• You should be able to use this information and
complete the unit circle for all remaining
quadrants. Check the next slide to ensure
accuracy.
How can we memorize it?
– It’s Symmetric!
– For Radians
the denominators
help!
– Knowing the
quadrant gives
the correct
+ / - sign

Exercise 5: Evaluating angles not on the unit
circle!
• 1st- determine the quadrant of your angle.
CONVERT to degrees if in radians. (recall your
special case triangles)
• Sketch the angle in the quadrant, and form a
right triangle by dropping a hypotenuse.
• 2nd determine the reference angle for the
given angle and corresponding coordinates.
• Label the sides accordingly and/or solve for
the unknown if necessary.

Exercise 6: TAKE NOTES
To find the value of a trig function of any angle:
1. Find the trig value for the associated
reference angle.
2. Pick the correct sign depending on where the
terminal side lies.
.
2.cos (−60°)
3.tan 11π/6
Exercise 7: REVIEW AND COPY
Trigonometric Functions of Real Numbers
• For convenience, the following table shows the exact values of
the trigonometric functions of special angles and quadrant
angles.
• Example 1
• Solution:
• a. Because = 4 /3 lies in Quadrant III, the
reference angle is = (4 /3) – = /3,
as shown in Figure 4.40.
Figure 4.40
Example EXERCISE 7.2
cont’d
tan = (–210)
. Because –210 + 360 = 150 , it follows that –210 is
coterminal with the second-quadrant angle 150 .
Therefore, the reference angle is = 180 – 150 = 30 ,
as shown in Figure 4.41.
•
• Finally, because the tangent is
negative in Quadrant II, you have.

EXERCISE 8:
Your task: Evaluate, if possible, the six trigonometric functions of
the real number theta. Give in ratio form, no decimals.
TURN IN EXERCISE 8 ONLY!
