Overview of EBS Architecture

1. Application Tier serves HTTP,

java, forms, concurrent services.
2. For html, Oracle HTTP server
provides web listener and
forwards to WebLogic present in
Fusion Middleware.
3. For forms, servlet is preferred
than socket mode.
Client Tier and Application Tier

1. Forms Applet (packaged as JAR

files) is required to run Forms.
This Applet, once downloaded,
sends user request to
Application tier. JAR files are
downloaded from Application
server and cached in client local
disk for future use.
2. Forms Applet must run within
jvm. Sun JRE plugin uses jvm
within client browsers.
R12.2 Application Tier

1. All major services are started from

Fusion Middleware ORACLE_HOME.
2. Forms and Reports services are
provided using 10.1.2 Application
server.
3. Fusion Middleware (FMW) provides
core functionalities in java code and
hosts OACORE server to provide
pages. JSP engine is included in FMW.
4. FMW comes with Oracle HTTP server
for accepting HTTP requests and
passing to Weblogic services.
R12.2 Tech stack components in
different release
1. EBS R12.2 is latest release of E-
Business Suite.
2. All major services are started from
Fusion Middleware ORACLE_HOME.
3. Fusion Middleware (FMW) provides
HTTP and core functionalities in
java code and hosts OACORE
server to provide pages. JSP engine
is included in FMW.
4. Forms and Reports services are
provided using 10.1.2 Application
server.

R12.2 File system

1. Dual file system, consisting of

fs1 (run) and fs2 (patch) running
on 2 ports, is required for online
patching
2. Directory fs_ne is noneditioned
meaning for storing non
editioned files like log files, adop,
patch files etc

R12.2 Concurrent Manager

1. Tool provided to run reports,

batch and schedule monitoring.
2. Programs written using SQL Plus,
SQL, Proc C, SQL Loader, Oracle
Reports, Unix script etc
3. Programs are grouped together
into concurrent libraries.

R12.2 Online Patching

1. No Maintenance mode
2. Patching performed using ADOP
3. Brief outage during Cutover
4. In database, there is patch and
run edition but they do not swap
roles.
R12.2 Cloning

1. Adpreclone creates
compressed archive of Oracle
fusion middleware and its
components.
2. Rapid clone creates context
file, registers oracle home on
global inventory, creates
instance top and starts
Application process.
R12.2 Shared File system

1. All application tier files (with

the specific exception of the
Instance Home file system)
are installed on a shared disk
resource, which is mounted
on each application tier node
2. Reduces patching efforts.
R12.2 AD utilities

1. AD stands for Application DBA

and these utilities are for EBS
Maintenance.
2. AD utilities perform variety of
tasks like updating system,
patching, merging, relining
etc.
3. Invoked using adadmin
followed by prompts
