Stressor
 Stress is a tense response generated by stressors or real
demands that have not been addressed in a person
 Stressors refer to the causes that activate the stress
process. Where such causes activate stress in the family,
with events in life that are serious enough to cause
changes in the family system.
 The stress that occurs in a person or family will require
an adaptable person or family in which adaptation is a
process of adjustment to change.
 Adaptation can be positive and negative, leading to an
increase or decrease in the healthy state of the family
Family Coping
Defined as a positive response, according to
the problem, affective, perceptive and
behavioral responses that families and their
subsystems use to solve a problem or reduce
stress caused by a problem or event

Pearlin and Schooler (1978) identified
three types of coping tactics that are
widely used by individuals in performing
their social functions.
Type of coping strategy of the family
 The first type of coping strategy:
To change a stressful situation by tackling the tension
in life directly. This type is directed to change and
eliminate stressors.
 The second type of coping strategy:
Consists of tactics that serve to control the meaning of
the problem
 The third type of koping strategy:
A mechanisme that is essentially used to help in
ordering and controlling stress rather than to cope with
the stressors themselves.
