GERUND AND INFINITIVE

Gerund and Infinitive


 Some verbs are followed by the gerund (-ing form).
I like going to concerts.
 Some verbs are followed by the infinitive with to.
I would like to go to a concert.
TO or ING?
 afford  ask
 want
 suggest  choose
 offer
 enjoy  decide
 promise
 expect  imagine
 seem
 agree  miss
 consider
 hope
 finish
Gerund and Infinitive
There are some verbs, however, which can be used
with both endings. They have different meanings.

STOP:
I stopped talking to Jim.
I stopped to talk to Jim.
 REMEMBER
Please, remember to lock the door.
I remember locking the door.
 TRY
Have you tried taking a pain killer?
I tried to stop the burglar but he had a gun.
