 Remote control facilitates the operation of Induction Motor regulators around the home or other
places. It provides a system that is simple to understand and also to operate, a system that would
be reliable and easy to maintain and durable irrespective of its usage. It adds more comfort to
everyday living by removing the inconvenience of having to move around to operate a Induction
Motor.
 Basically, a remote control works in the following manner, a button is pressed. This completes a
specific connection which produces a morse code line signal specific to that button.
 The transistor amplifies the signal and sends it to the LED which translates the signal into infrared
light. The sensor on the appliance detects the infrared light and reacts appropriately.
 The carrier frequency of such infrared signals is typically around 36 MHz . The aim of this work is to
design and construct a remote control for a Induction Motor regulator.
 The remote control device sends an infra-red beam, which is received by the infrared sensor on the
regulator and the speed of the Induction Motor is increased.

 When a button is pressed the transmitter send a coded signal to the receiver
side.
 At receiver end IR receiver (TSOP1738) decode the signal and send to the
microcontroller ATMEGA16.
 Microcontroller control the motor driver IC L293D, which is direct control
over the motor operations.
 L293D IC can control 2 motors operations simultaneously.

 We use AVR Studio compiler to write the program.
 The programming language we use C language.
 ATmega16 is an 8-bit high performance microcontroller of Atmel’s Mega AVR family with low
power consumption.
 Atmega16 is based on enhanced RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) architecture with
131 powerful instructions.
 ATmega16 has 16 KB programmable flash memory, Most of the instructions execute in one
machine cycle. Atmega16 can work on a maximum frequency of 16MHz.
 ATmega16 is a 40 pin microcontroller. There are 32 I/O (input/output) lines which are divided
into four 8-bit ports designated as PORTA, PORTB, PORTC and PORTD.
 A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat-panel display or other electronically modulated
optical device that uses the light-modulating properties of liquid crystals.
 The TSOP 1738 is a member of IR remote control receiver series.
 This IR sensor module consists of a PIN diode and a pre amplifier which are embedded into a single
package. The output of TSOP is active low and it gives +5V in off state. When IR waves, from a source,
with a center frequency of 38 kHz incident on it, its output goes low.
 TSOP module has an inbuilt control circuit for amplifying the coded pulses from the IR transmitter.
 A DC motor is any of a class of rotary electrical machines that converts direct current
electrical energy into mechanical energy.
 The principle of working of a DC motor is that "whenever a current carrying conductor is
placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a mechanical force". In our project we use 100
rpm DC motor.
 L293D is a dual H-bridge motor driver integrated circuit (IC). Motor
drivers act as current amplifiers since they take a low-current control
signal and provide a higher-current signal. This higher current signal is
used to drive the motors.
 L293D contains two inbuilt H-bridge driver circuits. In its common mode
of operation, two DC motors can be driven simultaneously, both in forward
and reverse direction. The motor operations of two motors can be
controlled by input logic at pins 2 & 7 and 10 & 15. Input logic 00 or 11
will stop the corresponding motor. Logic 01 and 10 will rotate it in
clockwise and anticlockwise directions, respectively.
 To control a high-voltage circuit with a low-voltage signal, as in some types of modems,
 To control a high-current circuit with a low-current signal, as in the starter solenoid of an
automobile,
 To detect and isolate faults on transmission and distribution lines by opening and closing
circuit breakers (protection relays).
 Normally closed contacts. When a current is passed through the relay coil, the relay operates
and opens the contacts that carry the supply current.
 Easy to understand design
 Easy to control speed
 Easy to control torque
 Simple, cheap drive design
 The work done can be further extended in future to design a closed loop
system which could control the speed to a more précised value and error
can be easily reduced by giving feedback signal form the sensor to the
controller using the DAQ card.
 receive the system status and information via SMS.
