PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
MASTER UNIT ARCHITECTURE
Working
• Panel PC holds the GUI
• GUI commands SP module through the LAN
interface.
• SP Module controls the Echo sounding
operation & passes the Processed data is to
the panel PC.
• GUI plots this data from SP module.
Working (contd)
• Transceiver Modules consists of Transmitter
card and Signal Conditioning card.
• Transceiver Module CH1 for processing 33 kHz
• Transceiver Module CH2 for processing 210 kHz.
• These cards are interfaced to SP Module using
serial interface.
• The Transmitter card functions generates
signals for transmission and conduct card level
health check.
Working (contd)

• Data to LED Repeater and other Computers

are passed to the Communication module.
• The Communication module provides various
interfaces required by the system such as
RS485 for Repeater, RS422 and RS232.
• The Communication module processes the
distance pulses from the LOG which depicts by
vertical lines every 1 mile.
Transducer
• TRANSDUCER Channel-1 (33KHz)
– Transmission Power : 5KW (pulsed)
– Beam Width :18 degrees
– Impedance in water : 110 ohms.
• TRANSDUCER Channel-2 (210KHz)
– Transmission Power : 200w (pulsed)
– Beam Width : 11 degrees
– Impedance in water : 75 ohms.
• REPEATERS
 Input (supplied from echo sounder)
– DC power : 24V ± 2%
– Depth information : RS 485 Serial
 Outputs
– Displays Depth CH-1 : 6 digits
– Displays Depth CH-2 : 5 digits
– LED Indications Shallow water, Metre/Fathom unit, Buzzer
alarm to indicate Shallow water.
• VGA REPEATER
 Input
– AC power : 110-240V
– Depth information : VGA Input
 Outputs
– Display: 12.1” diagonal XGA screen
– Other features: Brightness control, Transflective display
Backlight.
OPERATIONAL DIFFICULTIES
• During isothermal conditions.
• Sea conditions
• Self noise.
• Astern Movement
Bubbles formed by the propeller of the ship could
come below the face of transducer. It acts as a shield
preventing the signals to reach the transducer. Due
to this the Depth reading in the Echosounder V3 may
get affected.
• Turning
– During turning, ships have to move through waters
with propeller produced bubbles. Bubbles below
the transducer prevent signals to reach on it. Due
to this the Depth reading in the Echosounder V3
may get affected.
OPERATOR’S SERVICING AND
MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
• GENERAL MAINTENANCE
– Remove any dust or grit from the equipment
excluding LCD monitor, using a damp cloth
– Examine and ensure all the cables were connected
properly.
– Check whether all the fuses are fitted properly to the
fuse holders.
– Check whether all the connectors are fitted properly.
– Cleaning
• DRY DOCK INSPECTION
– Whenever the vessel is in dry dock the opportunity
should be taken to inspect the surface of the
transducer, which must be kept free from paint,
grease or marine growth.
