OBE Overview The BIG Picture

1. OBE is an abbreviation for Objective-Based Education. F


2. Malaysian Qualification Framework (MQF) emphasises on OBE. T
3. OBE is a new teaching method for higher education in Malaysia. F
4. Pelan Strategik Pengajian Tinggi Negara (PSPTN) objective is to produce

entrepreneurs.
5. Implementation of OBE is mandatory under Malaysian Qualification Agency Act

(MQA) 2007.

Topic 2 –
MQF and Act 679 : Compliance to MQF and Accreditation needs

1. Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) is established to implement Malaysian

Qualification Framework (MQF)
2. MQF is a framework to establish Malaysian Qualifications Register (MQR) F

3. According to Act 679, every academic programme must be accredited by MQA. F


4. According to Act 679, if an academic programme is not accredited, the higher F
education provider (HEP) can be fined.
5. Compliance to MQF includes getting accreditation from MQA. F

6. All HEP in Malaysia conducting an accredited programme must comply with MQF. T

7. Learning outcomes include PLOs and CLOs T


8. All academic programmes in Malaysia must produce 9(nine) skills or learning F
outcomes for the graduates.
9. Learning domains is also known as learning outcomes. F

10. In OBE, only Bloom’s Taxonomy can be used as learning outcomes identifiers. F
Topic 3-
Writing Learning Outcomes

1. Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) must include all 3 (three) learning domains:

cognitive, affective, psychomotor.
2. CLOs must have all 3 (three) components : verb, condition, standard. F

3. In a CLO, there can be more than 2 verbs of the same domain. F

4. Every CLO must have a minimum of cognitive level 4 (C4). F

5. CLOs should be written in the future tense. T


6. “Students will be able to understand the connections between morality and law.” F
7. “Students will be able to demonstrate effective information handling and research
skills.”

8. “Students will be able to get an introduction to statistics and its practical F
application.”
9. “Students will be able to appreciate the various criminological theories in relation to F

Mapping Outcomes and Assessment

Topic 5 –
Student Learning Time (SLT) and Table of Test Specification (TTS)

1. Credit is the quantitative measure that represents the volume of learning or

academic load to attain the set learning outcomes
2. Academic load is a quantitative measure of contact time and self learning time. F

3. Credit hour is also known as contact hour. F

4. Notional credit is equivalent to 40 credits F

5. 40 hours of notional student learning time is valued as one credit. T


6. SLT can only be used for a 14 -weeks semester system. F
7. Table of Test Specification is developed so the test has content validity. T
8. TTS’s aim is so that the assessment will be consistent and equivalent. T
9. TTS is developed after the completion of syllabus development. T
