Introduction
• India is the world’s second largest producer of
food

• Agriculture sector contributes 24% of our GDP.

• Annual agricultural produce wasted is 30-35%


of the production (40 million tones worth
50,000 Crores)
• 2nd Green Revolution – prevention of Agri.
Wastage through processing & preservation.

• Major constraints
– post harvest handling
– poor infrastructure,
– unavailability of cold storages,
– poor transportation

Hence a COLD CHAIN is the need of the hour.


Cold chain concept

A Cold Chain is a system which provides a


series of facilities for maintaining ideal
storage conditions for perishables from
the point of origin to the point of
consumption
