TEST PROCEDURE:
ECS (E1/ETH), SAM2, SAM1.5 & ACCESS

 TESTING SUMMARY
1. Set up SAM2.
2. Set up ECS (E1/Eth) communication controller.
3. Test communication to SAM1.5 or SAM2 unit via ECS (E1/Eth) coms Controller
4. Test communication to Access Control unit via ECS (E1/Eth) coms Controller

SAM2 SET UP – VIA RS232

RS232 Communication Test;
• Connect a straight RS232 cable between the Lap Top and the
SAM2 RS232 port(DB9 Connector on front panel
• Open SAM2 ECT

• Select “Com Port” and double click on “Password”

• Active communication will be shown on the
bottom left as indicated with the RED circle
until it says “received”
1. Click on “Load Config” and select the
applicable config file.
2. Click on “Update SAM” and wait until SAM
has been updated – This can be seen on
the bottom left as indicated with the RED
circle until it says “received”
3. Click on “Sync Time”
4. Click on “Get Config” and ensure that
SAM2 shows you the current date and
time.
5. Capture SAM2 Serial number.
6. Click on “Update”
7. Click on “Set Config”

1. Click on “Alarm Configuration” tab
2. Select “RS485” under “Coms Config”
3. Click on “Set”
4. Click on “Get Config”
5. Click on “Set Config”

• Check that “Intruder” alarm is number “9”

• Check that “Movement” alarm is number “11”

Close SAM2 ECT

ECS(E1/ETH) Coms Controller Set up;
• Connect a Straight RS232 cable the Lap Top and the
ECS(E1/ETH) Coms Controller diagnostics port.
• Open ECS(E1/ETH) ECT

• Insert “User name” and “Password”

• Select “Serial Communication and click on “Login”

ECS(E1/ETH) CONTROLLER – SET UP
ECS(E1/ETH) Set Up:
1. Click on “Find” to connect to unit
• Check that the units has the latest Firmware
version being “4.0.1.8”
• If Not on latest version, upgrade to latest
version
1. Click on “Down Load”
2. Capture the IP address as indicated
3. Click on “Set”
4. Click on “Site Inventory”

ECS(E1/ETH) Set Up:
1. Capture ECS(E1/ETH) Coms Port setup as
per screen print
2. Click on “Set” on the “Network” tab once
done.

LAPTOP – SET UP
Laptop Set Up:
Your Laptop IP address needs to be changed so
that it is within range of the coms controller
1. Connect LAN cable between the Coms
controller and the Laptop
2. Open Network settings
3. Click on “Local area Connection”
4. Click on “Properties”
5. Select “Internet protocol Version
4(TCP/IP).
6. Click on “Properties”
7. Click on “Use the following IP Address”
8. Capture the IP address – IP address will be
the same as the Coms controller except
the last digit must differ
9. The Subnet mask and gateway IP must be
the same as the coms controller
10. Click on “OK”

• Select “TCP” and insert the IP address of the ECS(E1/Eth) and

Port 301 and double click on “Password”
