The thermoacoustic engine used in this
project Capture exhaust gas waste heat from
I.C. Engine.
And converts waste heat to high amplitude
satanding waves within resonator.
These waves power a thermoacoustic heat
pump.
The exhaust gas from I.C. Engine is delivered
at the left side of the thermoacoustic engine.
The heat exchanger is used to extract the
heat from the gas and deliver it to acoustic
engine
Adjacent to the hot heat exchanger within the
thermoacoustic engine is the prime mover
“stack”
Stack is the heat storage assembly that has
loose thermal coupling to the oscillating gas.
Oscillting gas moves the heat from heat
exchanger to the stack..
Adjacent to the stack is the water cooled
ambient heat exchanger that maintains the
temperature gradient across the stack.
At the right hand end of the resonator tube
has a cold heat exchanger made up of brass,
which has 1.5mm thick fins & 150mm in
length
This is the begining of heat pump section.
The tube passes through the shell & fins are
soldered to brass outer shell, and are fitted
with electric cartridge heaters to impose a
head load on the heat-pump
To the right of the cold heat exchanger is
heat pump stack.
After the heat pump stack is the final heat
exchanger which is held at ambient
temperature and remove the remaining heat.
This heat exchanger has 4 tube through
which cooling water passes.
At last the heat generated in the exhaust gas
is removed
