PRE-ART TRIP MUSEUM ACTIVITIES

WHAT IS ART?

• Art is the expression or application of

human creative skill and imagination,
typically in a visual form such as painting or
sculpture, producing works to be
appreciated primarily for their beauty or
emotional power.
WHY ARE ART MUSEUMS IMPORTANT?

• The inform us about history and the past

• Culture is shared through art

• Art is meaningful and can tell a story

CREATING YOUR ART SKETCH BOOK

• You will each get a art sketch book and will

decorate the cover

• You will use lines, shapes, color, and patterns to

create your work of art
WHAT IS A LINE?

• A line is a basic element

of art, referring to a
continuous mark, made
on a surface, by a moving
point. A line is merely a
dot that moves.
WHAT ARE SHAPES?

Artists use all kinds of shapes.

Geometric shapes are precise and
regular, like squares, rectangles, and
triangles. They are often found in human-
made things, like building and machines
while biomorphic shapes are found in
nature. These shapes may look like
leaves, flowers, clouds—things that grow,
flow, and move.
WHAT IS COLOR?

• Color is the element of art that is

produced when light, striking an object, is
reflected back to the eye. There are three
properties to color. The first is hue,
which simply means the name we give to
a color (red, yellow, blue, green, etc.).
The second property is intensity, which
refers to the vividness of the color.
WHAT ARE PATTERNS?

• Pattern can be described as a

repeating unit of shape or form, but
it can also be thought of as the
"skeleton" that organizes the parts
of a composition.
