PREPOSITION is a word uses with Nouns, Pronouns and Gerunds, to link them
grammatically to other words. It may express such meanings as position, direction,
place, time.
Preposition of Time: at, in, on
we use at, in, on in these ways:
At + a time of the day at 2 o’clock at 6.30
at midnight at lunch
In + a part of the day in the morning in the afternoon
in the evening
in two weeks in half an hour
at night
On + a day on Monday on Saturday
on Christmas day
On + a day + a part of the day on Monday morning
on Saturday night
On + a date on 4th July on 1st January
At + public holiday periods at Christmas at Easter
In + longer periods in July in the summer
(months, seasons, years) in 1999 in the 19th century
On time and in time
On time means “ at exactly the tight time “
The 1 o’clock train arrived on time. (= it arrived
at o’clock)
Please try to be on time for the meeting
tomorrow. (= be there at the right time, don’t be
late)
In time means “ early enough “
We arrived at the station in time to catch the
train. (= early enough to catch it)
I won’t be home in time for dinner tonight. (=
early enough for dinner)
CONJUNCTION is a word which joins words, phrases, or
clauses together.
There are two types of Conjunction;
A. Coordinating Conjunctions
Such as: and, or, but, nor, etc.
Conjunctive Adverbs
Such as: however, even though, nevertheless, etc.
These two conjunctions join in the Compound
Sentence as a Connector.
B. Subordinating Conjunctions
Such as: because, when, unless, that, etc.
It joins in the sub-ordinate clause of Complex
Sentence
INTERJECTION is a word such as ugh!, wow!.
Hi!, which indicates an emotional state or
attitude such as delight, surprise, shock, and
disgust.
Examples:
“Ah, hello, eh, dear, hey, hi, hmm, uh-huh, well”
“Ah, that sounds good.”
“Hmm, let me see.”
