Home Environments and the
impact it has on education....
● Every student comes from different home
environments, and depending on the circumstances it
can impact their educational goals, academic outlook,
financial opportunity, and success.
● Students that come from difficult home environments
are able to cope in a positive manner when they have
a supportive school system.
● Equity is important in both schools and home
environments for a greater chance of academic
success.
● Research question: How do the home environments
of ESL students impact their academic advancement in
the traditional English school system?
ANALYSIS...
● Socioeconomic barriers that ESL students face in
their home environment are shown to be a strong
measure of their academic achievement (Pressley, 2004)
● ESL students fluctuate from speaking their native
language at home to learning English at school by
memorization, repetition, and testing (Pressley,2004)
● In United States hispanic students make up the
largest ELL population (Zhimei Gu, 2013)
