The youngest general received command of a French army for invasion
of Italy.

• Napoleon enforced a law requiring all citizens
to pay taxes. He created the national Bank of
France in which the tax money was deposited.
The Bank, in turn, issued money and made
loans to businesses.

• Established by Napoleon in 1801 as an
education reform.
• Lycees trained the nation’s future bureaucrats.
