A SPIRITUALITY OF SUPERNATURAL
COMMUNION (313 - 316)
• Charity varies from person to person and to which state of life we are called.
Many years ago, the Second Vatican Council emphasized the spirituality born of
family life in speaking about the lay apostolate. The Council stated that lay
spirituality’s particular character will be taken from the circumstances of
married and family life and that family cares remain familiar to that spirituality.
• The Trinity is present in marital communion and that God is present in the
hearts and praises of His people and that is why he also dwells deep within the
marital love that gives him glory.
A SPIRITUALITY OF SUPERNATURAL
COMMUNION (313 - 316)
• The Lord is always in the presence of real and concrete families, both in their
ups and downs. If a family is one that is honest and true, this would mean that
the Lord’s joy and peace reigns in that family. The spirituality of family love is
composed of thousands of small but authentic gestures. God dwells in that
variety of gifts and encounters which deepen communion. That mutual concern
unites the human and the divine because it is filled with God’s love. And finally,
marital spirituality is a spirituality of the bond wherein divine love exists.
A SPIRITUALITY OF SUPERNATURAL
COMMUNION (313 - 316)
• The word of God tells us that “the one who hates his brother is in the
darkness, and walks in the darkness” and that this person “abides in death” and
is not familiar with God. The act of closing our eyes to our neighbors also
blinds us to God and the only thing that can brighten or illuminate a world that
has grown dim is love. If we love one another, God is present in us and His love
is perfected in us. Spirituality becomes constant and everlasting in the
communion of the family. The people who have deep spiritual aspirations
should see it as a path which the Lord has paved to lead them to greater
heights of mystical union.
GATHERED IN PRAYER IN THE LIGHT
OF EASTER (317-318)
• If a family is centered on Christ, He will unify and illumine its entire life.

• Consist of two people: a husband and a wife raised by Christ.

• You help each other become more faithful.

• A Christ centered marriage sees Jesus as its very life.

GATHERED IN PRAYER IN THE LIGHT
OF EASTER
• Serving together allows you to demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit
(Galatians 5:22-23), show Christ-like love to others, and to bond together
as you glorify Him.

• In the darkest hours of a family’s life, union with Jesus in his abandonment can help
avoid a break-up.

• Gradually, “with the grace of the Holy Spirit, the spouses grow in holiness through
married life, also by sharing in the mystery of Christ cross, which transforms
difficulties and sufferings into an offering of love.”
GATHERED IN PRAYER IN THE LIGHT
OF EASTER
• Simple words help unite the family.

• Another way of sustaining the family’s spirituality is a family prayer.

• Family prayer is a special way of expressing and strengthening the paschal faith.

• God dwells in every family regardless of the struggles, hopes, joys, good things,
and bad things that happen in a family life.
A SPIRITUALITY OF EXCLUSIVE AND
FREE LOVE (319-320)
• Marriage is the experience if belonging completely to another person. Spouses accept the
challenge and aspiration of supporting one another, growing old together, and in this way reflecting
God’s own faithfulness.
Matthew 5:28
28 But
I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already
committed adultery with her in his heart.
• When a couple’s love attains the height of freedom and becomes the basis of healthy autonomy. I
means that the couple realizes that the other is not his or her own, but has a much more
important master, the one Lord.
Matthew 28:20
20 and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I
am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
A SPIRITUALITY OF CARE, CONSOLATION
AND INCENTIVE (321-325)
• “Christian couples are, for each other, for their children and for their relatives,
cooperators of grace and witnesses of the faith”.
• “God’s love is proclaimed through the living and concrete word whereby a
man and a woman express their conjugal love.”
• “You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by
everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our
ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on
tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” – 2 Corinthians 3:2-3
A SPIRITUALITY OF CARE,
CONSOLATION AND INCENTIVE
• “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people
have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” – Hebrews 13:2
• “What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on
those who have wives should live as if they do not; 30 those who mourn, as if
they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy
something, as if it were not theirs to keep; 31 those who use the things of the
world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing
away.” - 1 Corinthians 7:29-31
