NETWORK
TYPES OF NETWORK

LAN: Local Area Network

PAN : Personal Area Netwok
MAN: Metropolitan Area Network
WAN: Wide Area Network
LAN: LOCAL AREA NETWORK

.
WAN: WIDE AREA NETWORK
PAN: PERSONAL AREA NETWORK

 A PAN provides data transmission amongst devices such as

computers, telephones, tablets and personal digital assistants.
MAN: Metropolitan Area Network

 The metropolitan area network (MAN) is a computer network that

interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic area or
region larger than that covered by even a large local area network
(LAN) but smaller than the area covered by a wide area network
(WAN).
NETWORK TOPOLOGY
TYPES OF TOPOLOGY

 Bus topology
 Ring topology
 Star topology
 Mesh topology
BUS TOPOLOGY

 Bus topology is a specific kind of network topology in which all of

the various devices in the network are connected to a single
cable or line. In general, the term refers to how various devices
are set up in a network.
RING TOPOLOGY

 A ring network is a network topology in which each node

connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a single continuous
pathway for signals through each node - a ring
MESH TOPOLOGY

 A mesh network is a local network topology in which the

infrastructure nodes connect directly, dynamically and non-
hierarchically to as many other nodes as possible and cooperate
with one another to efficiently route data from/to clients
STAR TOPOLOGY

 Star topology is a network topology where each individual piece

of a network is attached to a central node (often called a hub or
switch). The attachment of these network pieces to the central
component is visually represented in a form similar to a star. Star
topology is also known as a star network
PROTOCOLS
TYPES OF TRANSMISSION MEDIA

 Copper cable—Types of cable include unshielded twisted-pair

(UTP), shielded twisted-pair (STP), and coaxial cable. ...
 Wireless—Wireless media include radio frequencies, microwave,
satellite, and infrared. ...
 There are a few disadvantages associated with wireless,
however.
NETWORK DEVICE

 Networking hardware, also known as network equipment or

computer networking devices, are physical devices which are
required for communication and interaction between devices on
a computer network
TYPES OF NETWORK DEVICE
 Different networking devices:
 Network Hub: Network Hub is a networking device which is used
to connect multiple network hosts. ...
 Network Switch: Like a hub, a switch also works at the layer of
LAN (Local Area Network) but you can say that a switch is more
intelligent than a hub. ...
 Modem: ...
 Network Router: ...
 Bridge: ...
 Repeater
NETWORK SECURITY

 Network security is protection of the access to files and

directories in a computer network against hacking, misuse and
unauthorized changes to the system. An example of network
security is an anti virus system. Your Dictionary definition and
usage example.
